Hearts requiring a pacemaker are able to beat on their own. The pacemaker is there to regulate the speed at which the heart beats. Generally because the heart is beating at too slow of a rate on its own. So even a slow heart would still have more than enough vibration to kick start the pacemaker.
Microsoft is arrogant-- their solution is "better".
Ignoring interoperability with any other common OS (SUN OS, Solaris, AIX, HP/UX). Of course Microsoft thinks their stuff is better. I don't know of any companies who don't say that. If Microsoft doesn't want to play well with others why should they? It's their product so if you don't like it don't use it.
Also remember that because of all the monopoly lawsuits Microsoft has to be careful what they bundle with Windows. (Yes I know it was all their fault to begin with but...) Now I'm not saying that it applies to the points you mention above but it does have an impact on what they can include for free.
Anyway the average user doesn't give a damn about any of the stuff you mention. All they really care about is email, internet and office and maybe a few others (movies, music etc.)
I don;t understand how he couldn't figure the problem out. I've been running Vista Ultimate since the day it came out and I've had two BSOD's. After each reboot Vista told me which driver had caused the issue and then went off to try and find a solution. The first was my sound card and Vista went off and found me some nice new drivers and the second was my Kasparov AV software and again Vista found the patch for me.
What it means is that you can't use your old copy of XP on another machine while you have the Vista upgrade installed. If you delete or trash your Vista install you can go back and reinstall XP.

I have a desktop and a laptop both running Vista and I get no issues during MP3/Video playback. Sounds to me like it's your drivers.

RTFA The whole point of this EU investigation is that iTunes is preventing you from buying cheaper music in Germany while you are in France.
