  1. ZX-81 the true personal computer on Grosse Pointe Quickies · · Score: 1
Well the first computer I got to play on was a DEC-10, the first one I owned was the good old Sinclair ZX-81 ! Since they can't seem to take any more entries, I thought I would throw this in here for everyone.
I think the world would be a better place if every kid got one of these to learn on in stead of these bloated appliances that do word processing, email and entertainment.
The ZX-81 was a * personal computer * that let you really see what it was all about.
to that end I am designing an easy to build clone, check out here for details.

It should not be hard at all to build your own supply, the best way to make sure that the high voltage goes down first is a relay that shorts it out as soon as the input power is lost. With some good size caps for your logic you should keep a second or more between high voltage down and logic down. Since you are using such little current this should pose no problems in design.

If you need some help with it, ask me and I will spend some time prototyping a supply up for you.

On a ride home on the train the CEO of a large rubber and plastics company took the only remaining seat next to a someone that was obviously homeless. After a while though he found it impossible as the man was studying very intently something between his fingers and mumbling "it looks like plastic but feels like rubber". Because he was the CEO of a rubber and plastics company he could not resist asking him what it was. "here, feel it" the man offerd "It looks like plastic but feels like rubber, I can't tell what it is". The CEO pushed and prodded, sniffed it but could not identify what it was made of.

    • 2x16 bits fixed-point DSP cores (2x40Mips)
    • Programmable chip selects
    • Interrupt controller
    • Three Timers
    • Watchdog Timer
    • Integrated fast RAM for two DSPs (2x88K bytes)
    • Two UARTs with FIFO
    • SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface)
    • External DRAM controller
    • Input/Output pins
    • Full JTAG debbuging
    • Flash EPROM interface
    • Dual Codec Interface

Thats just as realistic as someone paying ~$50 for the storeage space and days for a highspeed download. In fact if people were downloading 5gigs instead of screen shots it would become easy for them to be tracked down.

SUMMARY: The Copyright Office of the Library of Congress is preparing to conduct proceedings to make recommendations in accordance with section 1201(a)(1) of the Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. 1201(a)(1), which was added by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and which provides that the Librarian of Congress may exempt certain classes of works from the prohibition against circumventing a technological measure that controls access to a copyrighted work. The purpose of this rulemaking proceeding is to determine whether there are classes of works as to which users are, or are likely to be, adversely affected in their ability to make noninfringing uses if they are prohibited from circumventing such technological measures. This notice requests written comments from all interested parties, including representatives of copyright owners, educational institutions, libraries and archives, scholars, researchers and members of the public, in order to elicit information and views on whether noninfringing uses of certain classes of works are, or are likely to be, adversely affected by such prohibition."
