Sorry, but you lose old-school credibility for the use of "Apple 2+". For future reference, the proper way to reference pre-Macintosh Apple Computers is to use "Apple ][+" or "Apple II+" or "IIe", "IIc", "IIgs", etc. One must always reference the machines using some form of roman numerals rather than euro-arabic numerals (even the machines used roman numerals to identify themselves).
1) It doesn't need millions of access points. Only access points where they are truly needed (i.e. security checkpoints, not your local bar) 2) Establish a secure channel for accessing the database (Don't make it available via the internet) 3) The information in this proposed database already exists. Adding this database wouldn't make a difference (in the context of espionage).
What if a system is implemented to validate that the person presenting the card is the person listed in the database? What if when the card is read, the system displays the picture on file for the holder of the card (for an example of this type of system, except on a much more privacy-reduced scale, I'd recommend reviewing the DNA ID system in Gattaca)?
A card in any form is far more easily forged than a secured database. Use the information on the card for trivial matters (such as establishing patronage at your local drinking establishment or cashing a check at your bank) and connect to the database when it really counts (any government matter)
And regarding RFID use (for anyone who really cares, and there are plenty of people who do), encrypt the data so that it is useless without actually seeing the card (multi-key encryption)
Right now, the only government assigned ID system (in the US) is the Social Security Card, which is just a number and a name (which is not enough to validate the true identity of the person). The state issued IDs are not actually mandatory, so it is entirely possible that a US citizen has NO photo ID.
Well, only the tuner will become obsolete. There is absolutely nothing stopping you from using your existing TV with a new tuner. This is akin to using a VCR to watch cable TV on a set that handles only VHF/UHF.
Now, granted that there is also the ability to receive high-quality signals this way as well... You don't need a new TV, just a new tuner.
Just a question, do you have "The Voice" module for the Odyssey 2? The graphics weren't very good, but the voice synthesis was way ahead of its time.

No, if I was going to buy anything from Yamaha, it would be a clarinet. If I wanted a motorcycle, I'd go Harley-Davidson. If I wanted a crotch rocket, then I might consider Yamaha briefly before I came to my senses and bought a motorcycle instead.
Probably not. If you were a judge, would you want your phone number listed for everyone you ruled against to find? I didn't think so.
Now if one was to use some social engineering and suddenly take an interest in becoming employed by the RIAA, we might be able to get their names on "the list"
I'm not entirely sure where the #3 ranking came from...
Looking at MMORPG.com's game list sorted by ranking descending (highest ranking first), Ryzom is ranked #6.
For perspective though... World of Warcraft is #14, and FlyFF (a free-to-play MMORPG) is #11.
I've never played WoW myself, so I can't attest to the ratings system, but I'd guess its based on fanboyism and the quality of the game (The #1 game, EVE Online, would be well worth the money to play in my opinion. But until I start paying for EVE, I'll be playing FlyFF (which looks like Dark Cloud 2 as an MMO).
At the risk of being modded down...

Yes, it is nice to have a dogmatic approach to programming, but ultimately it really boils down to "what course of action will have the greatest benefit to the company?" It has always been this way (even outside of software development) and it always will.
Granted, I am not a climatologist or anything else related to this, but I would think it would do more than just mask the problem and in fact make it worse. We reduce the sun's ability to heat the planet while at the same time reducing the effectiveness of the natural process for removing carbon dioxide (a.k.a. photosynthesis). Perhaps we should instead try to engineer some plants with increased efficiency of photosynthesis.
(This next comment is a little tongue-in-cheek) If I recall correctly, there is a certain plant that has a decently high efficiency at photosynthesis that also has a tendency to grow just about anywhere. Unfortunately, this plant has been outlawed in many countries due to the effects of consuming it (either by ingestion or inhalation of its smoldering remains).
All we need to do is use 4.84 square miles instead. Then we need to get the plans for a flux capacitor and a method to reach 88 miles per hour quickly. Then we could go back to whenever and whoever started all the problems in the first place.
Upon the transfer of any patent from one owner to another, any use of said patent that predates the transfer of said patent is ineligible for attempts to collect royalties. Additionally, no patent holder may solicit royalty payments on an infringement of a patent after the infringing product has been available for over 6 months.
Perhaps it should be changed such that patents are non-transferable. With this proposal, we would discourage the formation of patent holding companies as well as reduce the threat of submarine patents.
Our system is configured to send the generic "office" number as well as the extension. Standard CallerID systems only display the generic number, but more sophisticated systems (such as a 911 dispatcher's equipment) display the entire string. We do it this way because the majority of extensions on the phone system do not have DID numbers.
Exactly. Even with Windows machines, every computer will need to be updated with new DST rules. It's not just a matter of incorrect time being displayed. If the computers are not within a certain threshold, they won't authenticate to the servers (one of the features of Microsoft using Kerberos within Active Directory)
Name one "communist" country that does/did not use money. Soviet Union -> Socialist, China -> Totalitarianism, Cuba -> Autocracy. All of these countries subverted the populace with the promise of communism. Unfortunately, power corrupts.
The system of government used in the United States is doomed to failure. It needs to be redesigned from the ground up. It would be great if it could occur without a second revolution, but sadly it appears that we are heading in the opposite direction.
I challenge you to the same challenge I posited in another post:
Please list as many positive attributes of capitalism as you can think of (that don't involve money since money has no use in a communist society) and/or as many negative attributes of communism as you can think of (that don't involve property ownership since everything you need is provided to you in a communist society)
Just as a question, where are you getting the death statistics? Also, neither the Soviet Union nor China ever actually practiced communism. The Soviet Union practiced socialism while China practices totalitarianism. Both used a guise of communism to rally support (similar to how the elected officials in the US promise to do one thing once elected and then subsequently ignore the issue afterwards).
As to whether democracy and communism are mutually exclusive... Is it possible for a people to govern itself without needing to actually own anything? The answer is yes, and therefore democracy and communism can co-exist (and in fact is the only way for it to truly work)
You have a strong opinion against communism. Please list as many positive attributes of capitalism as you can think of (that don't involve money since money has no use in a communist society) and/or as many negative attributes of communism as you can think of (that don't involve property ownership since everything you need is provided to you in a communist society)
But how many will hear the message without being told where to hear it? How do you tell people where to hear it? By advertising, and advertising is not cheap, whether by television ads, radio ads, newspaper ads, or even just yard signs, advertising costs money, and without financial backing, it's nearly impossible. Sure, you can try your luck with the search engines indexing your site, but if the people don't know what to look for, how will it help?
For the record, there are still a number of sites that don't cost anything to host web pages (such as Google Page Creator, Geocities, and Tripod/Angelfire).
I'm sorry, I was not specific enough in my post. Yes, the color change is only visible on television (Just as the yellow line marking the line for a first down in (American) football is only visible on television). Since they implemented the new pucks though, I have not seen any cameramen at the cameras.
As a side note, the puck would actually "glow" on camera without the use of digital effects. The infrared spectrum is visible to cameras. (When I worked at a Radio Shack, we would point remotes that were brought in for trouble shooting at the security cameras to see if the remote was actually transmitting codes.)
Additionally, the United States isn't "technically" a democracy either... It's a republic. (In a true democracy, the citizens vote on everything. In a republic, representatives are elected to vote on the issues.)
Communism and democracy (and even republics) are NOT mutually exclusive. Communism and capitalism should be mutually exclusive however. Communism will never properly work while money exists. The aberrations that exist today that are referred to as communist are actually far from it.
The form of government in the US is actually approaching the status of an oligarchy or aristocracy, especially with the amount of power that corporations hold over the elected officials (Let's face it, if you don't have the support of a few corporations and are not independently wealthy, it is highly unlikely that your message will reach the people who would vote for you.)
I'm sorry, I guess I forgot about the italicized roman numerals.
(of course, if I'm not mistaken, my Apple IIc could not display italicized text outside of the graphics mode)

Because to them, you are both complete strangers, each with no credibility.
Without a photo ID, what means do you have to prove that you are who you say you are? Why should someone take your word over someone else's?

Only a small change required to the theory:
New Zealand's rich bird fauna had evolved there because they had little competition from land mammals.

You mean like the hockey pucks they use when televising NHL games? They even make it change color when it goes over a certain speed!
(They were designed to eliminate cameramen by having the cameras automatically track the puck, even when it isn't visible to the camera)
