  1. Re:Apples moves into VM on Microsoft Slugs Mac Users With Vista Tax · · Score: 1

It's simple contract law. When you go to the store and purchase the software, you are actually purchasing a license (and the media it comes on). This initiates the contract between you and the software publisher, the terms of which should be printed where it can be read before purchase (such as on the box). At this point, the contact has been initiated (by the exchange of goods in the form of currency). If, upon installing the software, you are presented with an EULA that is contrary to the already agreed upon terms of the contract, this is a change in the terms of the contract which must be agreed upon by both parties or else the existing terms are used. If you do not agree to the EULA (if it is contrary to the previously established contract terms), preventing the installation of the software would be a violation of contract law on the software publisher's part.\

Now, if the terms of the license are available at the point of purchase, prior to the sale, then it's a completely different story.

It's called a bait-and-switch scheme, and it is quite illegal.

It is for anyone on a Windows network with mixed 2000 and XP installs using Active Directory. Kerberos (which Active Directory uses) will automatically deny access if the client's clock is more than 5 minutes off from the server's clock. If your server runs 2003 and your clients are 2000, or your server runs 2000 and your clients are XP, you will hit a problem.

There is a reason why every system clock in an Active Directory system is synchronized. If the server's clock is off from Atomic time, so will all of the clients.

I do work in IT. It has been our experience that when a PST file approaches 2 GB, it will become corrupt. Our remedy (that doesn't involve deleting archived items), is to start a new PST file for items to go into.

    Our system works as follows:
Maintain a frequent AutoArchive schedule to keep the main PST file size under control
When the archive PST file reaches 1.5 GB, rename the file (and in some cases relocate it to a location with more storage space).
The absence of the archive PST triggers Outlook to create a new file.
    Repeat as necessary.

Fortunately, there are few users that require this process.

I rescind my previous statement that they are overpriced. Somehow the market has gone stupid, and what was previously cheaper than the iPod has increased in price to match the price level of the iPod.

For some reason, the MP3 player market seems to be based on chaos theory rather than economics theory. TigerDirect.com has new 30GB Video iPods in Black for $50 less than refurbished 30GB Video iPods in white.

On the other hand, why would I want to watch videos on an iPod or a Zune? ("Just because I can" isn't a valid reason)

I can't vouch for anyone else, but the only feature I look for in an MP3 player is "Does it play MP3s?" 1GB is plenty of space to hold all of the music I care to listen to in one session, so an option like this Diablotek Mini Portable MP3 Player with Transcend 1GB 45x Secure Digital Card for $39.99 before rebate would be fine by me, and if I need to increase the amount of music I want to carry around with me, I can buy a 1GB SD Card the size of a postage stamp for $14.99 without needing any rebates, and the prices are still dropping.
