If by average purchase you mean average age of cars on the road, you're very wrong. The average age of a car on the road in the US just surpassed 11 years old. This is exactly why the longevity and long term resale of a car is very important. I know I won't even think about an electric car until they ensure it will last at least 10 years without an expensive overall. I'm currently driving a 14 year old car and have no plans to buy a new one as this one keeps going strong, I have real doubts the same can be said for electrics.
Just like we need to change our entire economy and way of life because global warming is killing us all and 1996 is the last year to take action or we will all be dead in a decade. Oh I mean 2000 is the last year to act, or 2010, or 2014 etc.... Yet now even NASA says there has been no warming happening in over 12 years.
It's funny how global warming nuts and IPV6 nuts sound very similar in their alarmism.
Exactly, the only reason I ever watched hulu was because it was free. The minute it goes to a pay site I'll be back to torrenting everything. It's really their loss, not mine.
So when I'm on the train, subway, in the back of a taxi or in the passenger seat in a car I can't talk on the phone either? I believe I'd be going the same "car" speeds in all those situations. I don't think they thought this through at all. It would just piss me off more than anything.
I've had SBC DSL and now ATT for about 6 years, in 3 different locations in 2 states. I routinely download and upload hundreds of GBs a month and have never been throttled, never had any issue. It's why I continue to use them instead of Cox, even though Cox has higher speeds.
The Cube effect is actually from 10.3 Panther, it was used for quick user switching, and since then has been used in other areas. All way before Beryl.
I understand you being new to OS X, but these things really aren't hard if you just stuck with it for a bit.
* Applications are in the Applications folder, very easy to find in the root of the drive. Anything else you want to find hit Command + Space and start typing, Spotlight is your friend.
* Want to know what's going on in the background? In the Utilities folder open up Activity Monitor, it shows everything running just like the task monitor in windows. If you don't like that, open up the terminal and run top like any other nix based OS.
* As far as other CLI stuff, there are tons of resources online for the mac, there are even some pretty good man pages you can check out too within the terminal itself.
As far as your mini showing too many beach balls, you do have to realize that the G4 you have is two generations in processors behind current macs sold. I fully accept my old G4 Powerbook and to some degree my G5 Powermac to run stuff slower and not be as responsive as a newer intel mac.

Yeah you're out of the loop. Here in OKC Cox offers 12Mbit cable connections. Of course my ATT DSL is still stuck at 6Mbit but it's still better.
