What do you think is holding up all that pretty UI in OS X? Popsicle sticks and glue? The core frameworks of OS X like Quicktime, App Kit, Core Image, Core Video, etc. are incredible technologies that make everything else possible. To say Apple isn't technically innovative is being ignorant or blind.

I think what you need is a small DV Deck. Cameras aren't designed to handle so much playback.
