Underneath IE and FF you have Opera, which true, doesn't hold that much of the market. However Opera is a potential big player, because mobile internet is becoming more popular (Just look on the headlines today) and Opera is so far one of the best suited browsers for portable hardware.
From previous Opera related posts on Slashdot, it has come to my attention that you have some real babes working for you in Norway. Are any of them single and if so, would they be interested in dating a guy who reads slashdot? BTW I use Safari but I can be persuaded to switch...
Jon von Tetzchner:
I must admit to not having total control over who of our employees are currently single and who are not, but I am sure some of our employees are single. However, who they date is clearly up to them. "
Wow...I'm still trying to figure out if they are both being serious...or if one side isn't holding up their end of the joke
We are a world based on reputations and labels. Without having credit given where credit is due, is to undermine the greatest (one can argue) human purpose...greed.
I think the problem when issues like this are raised, is that people are coming to/. with slightly wrong intentions. This place seems to act to too many as a battleground to butt egos against each other, when really this is a news site. People come here to read the latest News for Nerds(tm) and there shouldn't be an issue with who is providing the news, unless of course there is abuse taking place. However with this article, and many of the others submitted by the author, it seems that this is in the foremost news, so be glad that someone has found it and posted it for you to view.
"While a scant few players do support lossless compression formats (mostly FLAC), lossless formats are generally unavailable for portable players."
I don't see how lossless was meant to be mainstream or an explosive technology. It is generally for audiophiles, geeks, and nerds. Would they call Linux a failed technology? True it could be easy for producers to make portable players capable of playing FLAC or similar, however since when do they play to the minority? This is capitalism, and FLAC is not for the mainstream as most people can't tell the difference, or even care. Minorities rarely win in capitalism.
Alright so let me get this straight about Gmail. First:
First off, the Gmail screen still reads "BETA." Will it ever not be beta? Who knows? That means that you still need to be invited to, uh, participate in the beta.
Alright, so it is still in beta. To most people (the author seems to forget this) this means that there are probably little bugs or issues with the service. It may have been in beta for quite awhile, which could mean that they are still working on bugs, but then again most geeks are quite fickle about release dates (The author of TFA even admits this when he discusses Windows x64). Next, he goes on to say:
Gmail is inconvenient in many ways. Managing a mailing list isn't trivial. Trying to send legitimate attachments with executable files is damn near impossible. Even ZIP files are a chore.
Wait a second...Didn't we just determine that Gmail is still in beta? Don't we all know that beta == issues? Alright, so we have a service that shouldn't be in beta, but that has issues. Gotcha. Perhaps the arguement should be that there aren't enough resources going into Gmail, then perhaps I would buy the arguement.

How about the restrictions that the authors are going to be under, specifically on what they are allowed to respond with. Who will be looking over their material?

Can be found here with the little blurb Amazon Connect is a new program currently open to a select group of authors. This program allows authors to post messages directly to their readers on a wide variety of subjects. Currently, messages will appear on the detail page of an author's book as well as on her/his profile page. As part of the program, authors may create a profile page with personalized information.
P2P is not legal in Canada, as P2P requires two ends the uploader and downloader. As you stated, uploading copyrighted music is illegal in Canada, therefore P2P = illegal.
While it is true that the majority of heavy p2p users would never purchase everything that they have downloaded, think beyond the magnitude. I know personally there are many CDs which I have not bought, because I could download them. If I couldn't download them, then I would have purchased them because I enjoy the music.
Also, before any flame, I live in Canada so it is perfectly legal:)
Oeer-to-peer is only partially legal in Canada. The government has deemed that downloading music in Canada is perfectly legal, as it is for personal use. However the issue lies in uploading music, which is illegal. More information in this article
Um, for them it shouldn't be that hard. "Britain decided to use its new outpost as a penal colony; the First Fleet of 11 ships carried about 1500 people--half of them convicts. The fleet arrived in Sydney Harbour on 26 January 1788, and it is on this day every year that Australia Day is celebrated."

I would disagree in that, if you slowly integrat *nix boxes you will weed out most of the problems with the smallest amount of lasting effects, as you will learn from your mistakes and not have the problems with a large amount of computers.
*watches the karma drop* btw I'm a RIM supporter
