geez, you're right, every consumer (mac, linux, and windows users) has heard of pheed. stupid apple...trying to make technology easy for not-bleeding edge consumers/non-nerds.
has this "analyst" even considered that the new server chips intel is developing are not even close to being ready for production? does he honestly think steve would let intel put a couple of xeons in an xserve? the new duocores or whatever they're being called (yonahs to most/. users) have been priced and formally introduced. fine, let's speculate if apple is ready to put them into the products that will use them-ibooks, powerbooks, and mac minis. the merom, conroe, and whatever else intel has up their sleeve are at least 6 months away from production, and that's optimistic.
the state of journalism, especially tech journalism, is absolutely revolting these days.
everyone cries foul when apple tightens up the security, but everyone on this board is thinking about themselves and not apple. Apple is in the business to sell hardware, plain and simple. Why did they create OS X? To sell macs. Why did they create the iTunes Music Store? To sell iPods. Apple created the macintosh platform for people who aren't interested in hacking their system day in and day out. Ironically, it's this stability and quality that has attracted a fair amount unix/linux hackers. but to lash out at apple for doing whatever possible to stay in business? That's childish, selfish, and pretty immature.
i just don't buy the "security through minority" myth. hackers hack for a couple reasons-fame and to show off what they can do. who the hell cares if you 0wn another windows box? but what if you can take over an os x box? what if you can create a self-propogating os x virus? the mac community alone would know of your work overnight. if i were an os x engineer at apple, i'd want to talk to the person writes the first os x virus. windows gets hacked because it can be easily, not because there are so many of them.
the most ironic part of this story is that apple's products are better integrated than anything ms has ever produced. when microsoft says "integration", it means anywhere from flaw to exploit to bad design. when apple integrates, everything works together.
i hope history views bill gates as a complete failure...what else could he be to have so much talent under him and to sell so much crap.
when you're the leading innovator of the personal computer industry, i'll worship you.
until then, your sarcasm just isn't funny.
