This is ridiculus. They talk about using something like this to drive away 'bad teens' who hang around their store. Did they ever stop to consider that not all teens are bad, and what if some young person is actually going to their store to buy something legitimately. They need to stop stereotyping and realize most teens arent like that. I'm 17 and I do nothing of the sort. They are not only driving away these occassional trouble makers but also some of their own customers...
Even if you painted it with a black that absorbed every part of the visible spectrum, it would still block light from other sources which would allow you to see it. It would just look like a very... very black object... The only way it would be invisible would be like in space and thats more of a camoflague.
Anime such as Fullmetal Alchemist have been doing this already. Sure it isn't American, but it proves that this is possible. FMA uses a lot of technical chemistry terms in it which are mostly all accurate, besides the fact that Alchemy itself is impossible. (the way they show it) And they mix in cool fight scenes with subtle science lessons.
Watching this show made me more interested in Chemistry, as I just started watching it my Junior year of highscohol and I was easily able to use things I saw in the anime to relate it to real science, and it made things interesting.
I think doing this in mainstream media won't happen in a while, but it WILL have a positive affect if it is used right. Just don't make it something all about science, mix it in with a show where there is action, and then apply the science to it. Not at all impossible.
