Couldn't agree more. This has been the best machinima series ever. I can't wait to see how they wrap this up. If you haven't seen them, start watching now! Their other series are pretty funny but for geeks like us Red Vs. Blue has been a must watch since season 1.

and I am like this because every single day I have to deal with people who don't grasp the basic concepts of computers yet they get to make decisions about them. If people had to take a test like a drivers test to use computers, half of these gawd damn monkeys wouldn't pass, ever! IT management doesn't just get security, they don't get anything. When they want something done right they can pull their collective heads out of their collective asses and ask me. Dilbet said it best: "In order to make an informed decision, you would need to know as much as i know. That's impossible so instead by mutual, implied agreement, i will feed you some lies that point you to the right decision. If we don't upgrade our servers, a herd of trolls will attack headquarters."

  4. In a perfect world... on Shedding Light On the Black Art of IT Management · · Score: 1

the IT staff would make the decisions and then tell management/sales/paper pushers what they are to do. Judging by the comments on Slashdot over the years, I am not the only ubergeek that thinks the IT people should be the high paid personnel and the management asshats should be the underpaid paper pushers that we all know they are. If I had a company all the managers would have to have undergrad degrees in CS or something before they were allowed to get their MBAs.

I work as a Software Engineer / Oracle DBA. I have no stress. I don't like end lusers but i dont stress about them. Stress is for people who dont know the answer and dont know where to look to find it. When you know the answer or know where to look for it life is much easier. Also constant breaks to read Slashdot helps.

  6. screw trends and corp. stats on Who are CIOs Planning to Hire Next? · · Score: 2, Informative

am i the only one on here who could give a flying fvck about trends and hiring statistics? i am a software engineer / oracle dba for a $100 million company who is happy with my job. i never want to become management or the boss or any of that crap. i will program til i die, and i will die a happy man. if this company pisses me off i will walk out the door and get another job in seconds because software doesnt write itself and databases dont manage themselves. you cant fake skill. my code speaks for itself. i dont want a promotion i want a raise and bonus. i can work anywhere for anyone who meets those requirements. in the end i will make plenty of money by doing what i do best. so who cares that project managers and programmers are a hot hiring trend. not me, and if you have the skills you wont either. almost anyone can manage but not everyone can code!

  8. Re:Same as last year. on Windows Servers Beat Linux Servers · · Score: 1

"Linux is a hard OS to administer without training. It's not something you can just dive into..." The same can be said of Windows Server Adminstration. You can't just sit down and administer a windows server without training, just because you can open IE and click your way to updates doesn't qualify as administration, either does opening task manager. As far as I am concerned, anyone who says that Linux is "harder" to use really means that they can't take 5 minutes to read a man page or use google. It's not harder, it's just different. I do, however, completely agree with your assesment about the validity of the data. Clearly they did not, even if it was unintentional, survey a proper cross section of server adminstrators. IMHO, RHEL is clearly the uptime winner against Windows.
