  1. IBM PCjr w/640k of RAM...ran everything a PC would on What Was Your First Computer? · · Score: 1

They get a bad rap, mostly because of the lousy keyboard that came with the early models...but they fixed the keyboard (real keys instead of chicklets...and still wireless!) and it was a great machine. I had the sidecars on mine for parallel port, but also added a Tecmar jrCaptain with an extra 512k of RAM bringing it up to 640k, which was more than my dad's office machines! It ran Lotus 1-2-3 fine, and anything else I could throw at it. Plus, it had 16 color graphics before EGA was even available (and when it finally was, an EGA card cost as much as an entire PCjr!)...great games, too. The only problem was lack of expansion space, not that many of us could afford harddrives anyway (5 1/4", full height 10MB in my Compaq Plus! 8 pounds of harddrive). But you were fine as long as you didn't mind swapping diskettes all the time... Great machine, very under-rated...

It's that whole "Mission Accomplished" thing all over again...

  3. Auto related myths... on Ask The Mythbusters · · Score: 1

Maybe more a request than a question...there are many automobile related myths, some of which you have explored on your show (which I love, by the way)...however, you don't seem to have any auto enthusiasts on your staff. I think this would make a huge difference, as some of the auto-related myths you have explored and experienced 'surprise results' were completely obvious to myself and other enthusiasts (pickup truck tailgate drag, windows open vs. A/C, etc.)...it would also help cover all the bases on some of the others (the 'axle ripped from police car' never took into account the huge differences in vehicle design and materials over 40 years, for example). Of course, the question of what constitutes an enthusiast might pop up...it's not just someone who 'likes cars', or is a mechanic (or even engineer/designer), it's the person who has a ton of general automotive knowledge (ah, you probably know one or two).
    Thanks!

  4. Money comes from touring anyway... on Outspoken Group Releases Album as Free Download · · Score: 1

Most bands don't make much on their records anyway...only huge acts make bank on sales themselves. The big money for most bands comes from touring...so why not give away the recordings? Plus, there will ALWAYS be a contingent willing to pay for a CD of higher sound quality (I'm one of 'em). Of course, ALL of the questions would go away if everyone stood up and took a stand against the record companies. If NOBODY bought a CD for just one week...I'm talking ZERO sales...then the companies would rethink the whole RIAA thing. If you want to effect change, interrupt the cash-flow.
