    Indeed. If their Android app wasn't so poorly written we might be able to run it through an android emulator.
    I would wager it doesn't work -at all- on at least 25% of the android devices on the market, and quite poorly on another 25%, particularly after their recent UI update.

    I don't know what kind of slack jawed yokels they have on their android development team but seriously, WTH guys?

    playing games that were meant to be played with a game pad or analog stick on a touch screen is very frustrating.

    I couldn't agree more, but you can get around this with a bluetooth joypad. (ex. Bluetooth Wii Classic Controller from Datel).

    Of course if you're committed to carrying around an extra piece of hardware anyway just hacking an old PSP probably makes more sense. It's quite capable of emulating many 'legacy' consoles.

    Just the NCIC entry is a guarantee of an employment-free life in anything more sophisticated than burger flipping.

    Which is an excellent reason to branch out into far more lucrative industries such as meth production and armed robbery.

    Look I understand that certain convictions, not arrests, but actual convictions, should preclude employment in some fields but we've established a bizzaro-world society where trivial crimes become felonies. Peeing in the bushes = registered sex offender for life. WTF

    I realize it gets no geek cred, but Windows Media Center works just fine with CableCard. It also doesn't require you to pay subscription fees for TV listings like MythTV does.

    Oh and also integration with both Netflix and XBMC, I really want to like MythTV. It does a lot of things well but it can't do everything I need it to.

    Not particularly, but I'd like to (for instance) buy a real chemistry set or halfway decent fireworks. Except that I can't. Because...of...this...very... same...argument.

    Also I'm fairly sure flamethrowers are legal. They even have practical applications that don't involve setting people on fire. People use them for weed control in rocky soil.

    Um...yes it freaking is. I can think of a great many things it could be fatal to swallow. Even dihydrogen monoxide is fatal in sufficient quantities.

    "Think of the children" has caused so much stupid regulation it should be an automatic fail ala Godwin's law.

    Really? I've found plenty of .NET ports for Java libraries I used to use. There are sometimes gaps, but I have yet to come up against any really serious ones.

    Most of the paid libraries are for things like UI components, and with WPF styling you seldom need them.

    First off, The most effective way of handling snow and ice is a light car with thin snow tires. That's just how physics works. Grip/Weight.

    Second, Traction Control usually means throttle control. If tires start to slip the ECU (Engine Control Unit) reduces engine power. In AWD cases it may shift power to different wheels or in more advanced systems it may modulate specific wheel braking but that's a best case scenario.

    The bottom line here is whether your ECU is a better driver than you are. I'd like to believe it's not, but most people have no idea what to do if their vehicle starts to skid so this is probably a benefit, provided you (and those pesky Ambulance Drivers) can easily disable it. Everyone should know how to handle their car in a skid but it's not something you'll get in your typical drivers-Ed course.

    The problem with radioactive money is its half life, so you are going to lose half of the value of your stock pile every once in a while

    So you're saying the currency would become worth only half as much over time? We have that problem over here too, we just call it inflation.

    Life Clocks Are a Lie! Carousel Is a Lie! THERE IS NO RENEWAL! ...but seriously, I would not make the jump to mobile apps at your age with your background. You can make a good living doing legacy development/maintenance and there's a lot less competition.

    At a certain company I once worked for we had to integrate a Java front end into a COBOL/IBM back end. The floor with the COBOL developers looked like extras from the movie 'Cocoon'. They're sure to have some fresh 'openings' by now

    There's little practical purpose in being able to go over 200mph in a car though, given current roads

    Given that you're on an island 200 miles across, I'm going to strongly agree with that...and some of us Americans also enjoy cars that can turn both left AND right.

    I thought that MS mouse and keyboards were re-badged Logitech products?

    As far as I know their mice are all in-house products. Also the original 'sidewinder' gaming mouse = pure awesome.

    Now if they could just figure out how to market things and/or write decent software...

    Exactly. I too experienced the pain that is dealing with buggy VIA chipsets but that's currently a non-issue and has been for some time now.

    Mostly though I think AMD is just not in a competitive place. They can't compete on the high end, and on the low end their only big win is in GPU performance, which targets um...HTPCs and really broke gamers?
