Multiple readers per copy means little unless it turns into real subscribers at a later date. If people aren't buying then the publisher isn't making money.
The only way PLoS has been able to circumvent this is by (a) huge donations )primarily from a couple of donors (b) Charge the authors money to publish their work. This used to be $1500 and now has been increased to $2000 or $2500. As a former grad student I can assure you that many established journals charge authors a publishing fee on the same order of magnitude.
He didn't deliberately flood wikipedia with false information to mislead. He didn't offer false medical advice deliberately while claiming to be a doctor. Firstly, his PhD is in Theology. Secondly, he has cited his "credentials" in correspondence with real professors in an attempt to convince them that Wikipedia is a valid research tool.
