Jedidiah, you're normally pretty astute, but on this issue I must inform you that with all due respect you have not got a single fucking clue.
*Neither* of those things happened to me when I was hospitalised in China a couple of years ago.
What I did get was prompt, professional, and effective treatment by very qualified doctors and staff using the latest equipment in a very modern and well-maintained facility.
I also received a bill for 1600RMB, because I'm not a Chinese citizen and I informed them that I was able to pay.
Can you remind me which US hospital it is that only charges $250 for ER admission + overnight stay? I can't seem to recall...
My daughter was born via emergency C-section in Australia. I think we ended up paying roughly a thousand dollars. Had this happened to us in the US, her mother and I would have been bankrupted.
That sort of globalisation is intended to provide for unrestricted movement of capital while keeping labour and consumers locked down as tightly as possible.
If you ever emerged from your basement long enough to visit some other country, you'd very rapidly discover that the US political "spectrum" ranges from Center-Right to Batshit-Crazy-Far-Right.
...[Y]our real problem in this world isn't actually the FDA, it's the insurance industry. The FDA may be able to shut down businesses which don't comply, but, by and large, they let an awful lot of stuff get through. It's the insurers who are deciding what actually gets used in our medical system...
Tell me about it. My mother has cancer. Her physician-recommended treatment isn't covered by insurance because they consider it "experimental", despite the fact that it seems to have worked quite well for Jimmy Carter.
If you're flying via Beijing and you don't already have a Chinese visa, the Chinese authorities will issue you one that's good for 1 day so you can move about the airport freely. Or, if your layover is long enough, you can take a cab into the city and mess around for a few hours.
Right, let's keep out all those terrorist vegetarians and Orthodox Jews...
And, who knows, maybe even some Muslims--at least those who pay attention to the dietary laws. I know some who don't, or who only abstain from such things during Ramadan.
I don't even use the mobile site on my mobile devices. Maybe that's because I recall as commonplace desktop monitor screens that had ~1/6 the pixel depth/width that my phone has.
I know that Dolphin has 2 and 4 without even looking, as I use these every day myself. 3 is not all that necessary for me--I'm content to let my file manager be a file manager and to view PDFs in a PDF viewer--and in any case this is mostly covered by preview.
And I *know* Konq has fish:, thanks very much. Did you somehow think I'd never used it myself?
In fact, I mentioned fish: specifically because it was one of the Konqueror/KDE integration features I was waiting to arrive in Dolphin before I'd consider switching to it.
Ah, yes, it's the the old "Let's pretend what MS did wasn't anything all that important, anyway" excuse, complete with scathing evidence from... some AC who's got nothing other than taunts to back him up.
Wasn't aware of that. Using KDE 4.1 on this machine, where it's in Dolphin. (My primary is temporarily out of service, not sure offhand what version's installed there.) Even so--you can't invoke the KDE desktop configurator from IceWM?
Personally, I'm still irked that they moved it out of/opt.

Ever had a big-mac in another country? Not the same... Heartbreaking shit : (
No. I've had many Big Macs/Whoppers/etc. in about 20 countries.
In many of these places, the food's actually *better* than at the same chains in the US due to local food safety/quality regulations.
The lone exception being that I've yet to find a KFC outside the US that serves biscuits instead of replacing them with bread rolls. *snif*

You really think that $mega_software_co gives two shits about a half-ass, wanna-be tech site like Slashdot?
They have been known to do so. Why is Apple any different?

Seems somebody accidentally hit "Troll" instead of "Insightful". Perhaps they'll realise their mistake and post in this thread to undo the damage.
Whereas, for every comment you post like this, you're only getting 20 kopecks?

(Yes, size is a thing--but so is resolution.)
If you can't tell the difference between jealousy and admiration, then you're a very fucked-up individual and I feel badly on your account.
And to think that you French-kiss your mother with that same foul mouth...
Yeah, it's a bit sad how reality never seems to be be a good match for $ideology.
Another wild-eyed radical who thinks words should actually mean things. BURN THE HERETIC!!
Adult entertainment outfit ALS Scan agrees and has now become the first dissenter to take CloudFlare to court.
I hope writing that caused the author as great a headache to write as reading it caused me.
Tyst! När man talar om trollen så står de i farstun!
Are you the same shining light who mistranslated the name of the "intelligent" [zhìnéng] router? How appropriate...
That's because you missed "useful". :)

A bit of nothing intended only to distract small minds.
I'm not interested in winning some kind of battle, and that's not why I use Linux.
