Honestly some of the stuff they have turned on in the default install is just idiotic. I strongly suggest to anyone after installing windows to configure their services because half of the default services are ones they will never need/use. On Windows XP just go to the run box and type in "services.msc" or "msconfig" to configure all your services. IIRC correctly services can be changed the same way for Windows NT and Windows ME (WORST OS EVER).

Seriously people they're cheap as hell and much superior to anything you're going to get from Microsoft on a software level. Just close all ports on the hardware firewall, except the few that you need, and try to keep your computer updated. It's really a very simple process and can save you tons of time in the end.

My feelings exactly, for the vast majority of software I really can't see why they would charge based on the number of CPUs used. Especially since dual core etc. is going to become so common in the next few years.

You have some experience with "massive doses of LSD"? I would imagine a lot of people would freak out after a "massive dose of LSD"....

This is Slashdot; by the looks of the titles and stories submitted to the front page from time to time I would think there was a reward.

I'm on Linux and Mplayer and Xine can play the WMV files perfectly fine. Just need to have the correct codec installed. I'm using Fedora and I even installed all the codec's through yum. If you're using an RPM based distribution Atrpms should have all the packages you need. Plenty of instructions can be found by googling on how to install the codecs you need...

If you haven't noticed Slashdot isn't really a shining gem in terms of journalism and content. You should be happy this story wasn't a dupe and be hoping that you won't see it again tomorrow and next week.

It's not over yet. I'd be willing to put money on them making more sequels within the next ten to fifteen years. The ability of the series to continuously make absurd amounts of money is too much for the studios to resist. Even if the last few have been mediocre at best in terms of quality, there is still no doubt in the eyes of the studios that they have been a massive success. The studios don't care what they're selling nearly as much as how much it makes and Star Wars has continued to show that it can rake in money by the truckload.
