The downside of SED is burn in. Having experienced it on my CRT Projection (visible bars on both sides from watching non-HD content after only one year), I think it's a huge disadvantage.
I used mainly Java and C++ in college but got a job in C# and was fluent with it in matter of weeks. Both are free to learn and develop with, considering you have Windows machine for C#. In the long run as long as you grasp OOP, it does not matter which one you choose.
How can you say it is rational when according to the prices you provided it costs one third to clean up the PC as opposed to getting a new one? Sounds plenty irrational to me.
Anyway, $129 sounds like a lot, if I was to charge that much maybe my friends and family would finally start listening to my advice on using Firefox, getting news windows updates and stop browsing for pr0n.

The latest version of Nero 7.x works fine with Vista. It even lists Vista support in their system requirements.
SEDs are not meant for computer monitors ~ at least until they fix the burn in issues.

What Express does not include when compared to SQL Server SE and above is Analysis Services, Reporting Services...
It's worth noting that free version of Reporting Services will be included in the Express edition soon.
