It really desturbs me that people still keep thinking small. There is an Internet out there and it's BIG. Even if you are having lectures in a very narrow field, there are plenty of people that are interested in it.
So why not put some effort in putting the material on the web and then get money from ads? It works just fine for TV, but Internet is much cheaper and better to use.
I was just about to write exactly that! Damn you Americans that steal the jobs from us honest Swedes! I mean: I have a cat to feed, a computer to nourish and beer to buy, but Internet is flooding with Americans that are writing my texts and they do it for free! How am I supposed to compete with that?
Companies and sites like Slashdot should really start worrying about this free labour and start hiring me for $1000 an hour instead. Many investigations point in this way, total lifetime cost, FUD and yada yada...

If you just want to read/look at scifi stories and art, Elfwood http://www.elfwood.com/ is much easier to access, and it's free.
And at the spin-off sites like Elftown http://www.elftown.com/ and Writersco http://www.writersco.com/ you can have a much more intime conversations with or between the writers and artists. But there are also some pretty bad amateurs there, but many see that as a feature, not a bug.
This article clearly shows that this disk aren't useful for normal applications. But:
1) How on Earth could they forget to test database-performance? That is what this is made to do! If you (like I) have a less than 4GByte database-table with a lot of writes, then you need this. Otherwise more RAM seems to be the solution.
2) The bad performance with the copying a source-dir might have to do with the file-system. If every little file is stored in a big block, then you get a big overhead. Something like Reiserfs might be much better, but I can only guess as it's not tested.
There are other solid state disks with faster SCSI-interfaces and fibre channel. As the busword one put a huge "SAN"-smile on any seller and that smile goes away very fast if you ask the stupid question "Cost?", I guess those solutions are out of the question for companies with a limit on their budget.
I've been running Elftown, Elfpack, CatHug and a few even smaller communities for over 3 years now. Elftown has more than 17000 users logging in each week.
On that huge amount of people, I've only been contacted by the police once (It was about an underage girl that got rescued from her parents by her boyfriend, or as some one-sided US-newspapers wrote: "13 year old girl abducted by a pedophile").
Unfortunately it seems like Google is getting all the press, even for non-news like this. Not even the local newspaper was interested in my story. I guess I should send out press-releases with "No drugs sold this month, not even by roleplaying druids!".
