  1. Patent scope, modem? on BT Sues Prodigy Over Hyperlink Patent · · Score: 1

So, I'm reading the claims of the patent on the delphion patent server (was ibm's patent server).

I notice that the make claims to a complete "terminal apparatus" but never to either the client or the server themselves. Does this mean that BT must identify a specific client/server instance where both are controlled by prodigy to even show a violation of the patent?

Also, does this counterexample everyone keeps talking about involve a modem? Given the recent decline of the IQ of the average slashdot user to somewhere between 5 and 10, I can't really make the assumption that someone would actually read the claims before trying to think up a counterexample.

I agree on your assessments of the rights involved. Personally, I didn't know about the "escalation" provisions (essentially massive provider boycotting). I can see their point of view on the issue...

They could at least have the courtesy to contact the owners of the individual sites, though. I don't particularly mind if they continue causing more and more collateral damage... My guess is that the related publicity can only shrink their userbase to virtually nothing.

What this poster says is true. But, ignoring the wierd quantization which was clearly meant to give even states with low populations a baseline amount of power (the US has some wierd characteristics as far as federal unions go... =), the intent appears to be that each citizen should have equal representation. I was attempting to respond to the "schoolyard" comment. Although I could write a building-sized tome on why parliamentary democracy is really nasty, at least Canada has good supreme court precedents about vote equality and electoral riding size parity. I don't really know why the founding non-gender-specific-parent-figures [ =) ] had in mind with the whole #electors = #senators + #representatives thing.
