Putting it that way, it makes the Windows Source Code leak quite a while ago look planned too, in order to force people to upgrade because "That version isn't secure any more" (not that it was in the first place).

I always cringe when I see a Slashdot comment titled 'OMFG!!!', but for some reason I always click it too...

And they always seem to be the sort of posts people are afraid to moderate in any direction. I mean hell, I wouldn't know whether to classify this as Funny, Insightful or Troll. And the funny thing is, its probably a registered user posting as Anonymous Coward to protect their credibility...

  4. Instead on Creators of Massive Botnet Arrested · · Score: 1

Why don't they arrest M$ directors for promoting the development of an insecure, vulnerable OS through unrealistic release deadlines and abusive market practices?

Because lets face it, its not the Windows developers' fault, because most developers would rather spend more time on a project and make it better, and the creaters of trojans would have a much harder time of it if there weren't such huge flaws in the market-dominating OS.

I thought you made a good point, and took everything you said seriously, right up until the PowWeb advert in your sig. Thank that people can't put invasive advertising in their Slashdot sigs!

  6. The really annoying thing is... on Flock, the New Browser on the Block · · Score: 1

... all of these new projects are using the relative success of the Gmail invitation-only beta, and its to the point where people assume that having invite-only will make the project more popular and/or desirable. All it really seems to do with most projects is frustrate potentially useful beta testers who can't access the downloads to try the damn thing out.

And I have to say, their website reminds me of eBay pages made by Hong Kong sellers - huge loud text, annoyingly painful to try to read. I wouldn't be surprised if their Slashdot exposure came to nothing because the website scares people off. Good luck on getting beta testers Flock!

    Obligatory:
    1) Create invite-only beta
    2) Get Slashdot coverage
    3) ???
    4) Profit!

And where would we be without:
"In Soviet Russia ... software tests you!"

    [/me hides from negative mod-points]

Will I try it when there is a PUBLIC beta? Or better yet, will I bother following a project with such an offensive front page? Yeah, right...

  7. Yes, but... on Why Bill Gates Wants 3,000 New Patents · · Score: 1

... who on Earth (excluding Lawyers) can read these applications? Or maybe that's the point? Lawyers protecting their own interests as usual.

There seems to be an entire 'dialect' of the English language which only exists on Patent applications, and any attempt to read such text aloud results in severe tongue-twisting (not to mention headaches).

Maybe, if they MUST keep allowing patents, they should only allow READABLE patents...
