    Nothing like as close. Aged PC dinosaur and convicted monopoly successfully got a new PC companies hardware products effectively banned for using patents that allow interacting with its own proprietary software. It did so by only *one* patent of nine being upheld.

    This is about that ban not being upheld...and the claims of deals being done behind closed doors with of all people the US customs. So nothing like you said.

    I have never done any of this, but you have to wonder if this is a home goal twinned with what should be an antitrust case. Google have dropped activesync.http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2413283,00.asp (Anyone else forgot how pro Microsoft PCmag was)

    The most ironic part of this Windows Phone users used to get gmail messages instantaneously...and now they don't...like Windows Phone was not already second class technology.

    Technology(sic) like this should be used to give additional benefits to Microsoft Users not used to attack competing companies(and its own customers) in markets where...lets be honest its product continues to fail after 3 years (I remember when they had 10% of the smart-phone market)

    Trying to Bullying companies as large...rich...popular...successful...like...Google is just stupid(Apple have behind closed doors agreement). Insane when their product occupies 75% of the market and yours occupies 3%.

    The bottom line is even if these product were banned...Windows Phone would have remained a failure, not its a little more likely to continue to be.

    I know your just paid to promote the dead platform Windows Phone...But really attacking potential customers is not the way. Windows Phone was announced February 15, 2010, and released publicly on November 8, 2010. Its not a new product...its been a failure for a long time, its very heavily promoted; Its just not very good.

    Hold on there why does anyone say this....I want more powerful hardware and can use it. Where is my 4X 1080P 24" touchscreen monitor, with keyboard with LED keys with these futuristic storage sizes with android compatibility...at a price I can afford. Microsoft turned the computer into a tablet...and Apple turned it into a none upgradable cylinder. At least they are still sat on massive profit margins while sales shrink, but who cares its a duopoly Anyway.

    Except its not true...real keyboard and mouse have uses, but the rise of pen+drawing screen is actually a better input for artists, hell anything where a pad beats static computer.

    As for an iPad being better for consumption....seriously my 24" monitor is so much better for consumption than a tablet for *anything* videos, web pages. games...

    The main difference is the trade between portability at the lack of some screen estate, power, storage, ease of input and it just happens in most use cases these are not as important.

    No mention of the fact that Intel and Microsoft are still bleeding customers on gross margins of 70%. Computers have to compete against other computing devices, and they are not doing so on price. Windows 8 being a tablet OS is the nail in the coffin.

    Even Google doesn't keep Android up to date on older devices. The once-flagship Nexus One, introduced in 2010, only got official updates for about a year, taking it from version 2.1 to 2.3.6.

    That is a strange way of measuring time. It was launched January 10 and only had its operating system replaced 13th Novemer 2012...so Almost 3 Years, more than say an iPad.

    Their sales on Macs are flat. There is no "more revenue from less units" nonsense. If you are reading Apple reports they quote year over year statistics and they do so for a very good reason, their products have 20% deviations between different quarters every year. That means nothing other than their products are cyclical. Pretending that's not the case and talking about quarter over quarter numbers is lying.

In reality we notice Apple is making more revenue from less units...which sounds like Apples usual sacrificing market share for profits. Good for them...sucks for its customers, who already pay too much for their mid-range products, better buy a Lenovo...everyone else is.

    So the greatest accomplishment of GNOME 3 is to be able to look and feel like GNOME2.
    Doesn't sound like an improvement to me.

    Yet is does show how *flexible* Gnome 3 is. It also allows those who prefer a Gnome 2 look can have one without installing a replacement, and the pursuit of better interface can continue without punishing users in the transitional period.

    Since then I've bought a Mac and never been happier.

    Ironically I have used Mac regular, and back 8 years ago would recommend them (when the top end where reasonable value and their software shined), today they look and run like overpriced dinosaurs, with gimmicks like cylinder cases with no real innovation. Now I use Gnome or XFCE and both are better, and its lightening fast. In short the MAC is overpriced brand trash.

    I'm not even alone Mac sales are being crushed dropping 22% and 2% over last two quarters, yet Linux usage continues to rise.

    Your trolling. The topic is about Gnome Shell (Default) vs Desktop Metaphor (Note I don't add traditional before it) and not about Apple who have lets be honest have abandoned their Desktop.

    Probably not, but his point is that Apple used to have long support cycles, and good second hand value. Traditionally many Apple owners benefited from this, and justified some of its premium price for a mid-range product. The effects of reduced support cycles due to its expanded product lines...and move towards disposable electronics, removed a lot of value from its products. A move that will affect the Apple faithful more than these new hipster or fanboi you talk about who if anything have the latest Samsung.

    I do not oppose OSS in any way but you are correct that usually it just isn't that important for me that the source code is available. I will use the software which makes the computer most enjoyable to use.

    Except Windows is not *enjoyable*; its universally hated. Apple users routinely use subjective phrasing around their niche products to cover up the fact that they are measurably worse than the opposition...it shows how far Windows has fallen for its fanatics to do the same. Except even subjective things...we can argue that most agree where it counts *money* are not interested in Windows. Its still a monopoly on the Desktop (which they are selling less for 5 quarters now)...but its universal interface Metro Hated *everywhere* it can't sell its Phones or Tablets...massively subsidised and discounted.

    If your not interested in open source...then you are not interested in security, support, lifetime of software something as a User I am very much interested in...and in context of this article what 25% of users worldwide (40% on Net Statistics) who still use XP should have been interested in.
