How can lawyers get even richer if they can't set up laws that generate legal conflict?
Except this is little to do with Lawyers, and everything to do with Steve Jobs protecting Apple from being out innovated by Android, a market that made it the richest company on earth with a market cap of over $400 Billion and $140Billion sat around in cash. The Lawyers are a trivial expense, of what the Judge rightly calls a bushiness strategy.
Except this game(sic) as you put it did not exist [in the mobile sphere], everyone got along and licensed their patents to each other through FRAND, and them Steve Jobs with a few weak obvious interface patents and a few basic shape design patents...and a first out of gate [apart from that other phone] product, ever since then its been Apple patent raping one end of the phone industry to get the to sell Windows Phones [Seriously WTF?] to Microsoft patent raping them at the other to get them to License Windows Phone [and put a little in Ballmers retirement fund]...Lets call it what it is a misuse of Legal system through patents by companies who cannot compete through innovation [While slipping a few thousand into group troll companies].
As time goes on it seems that Googles Patent buy is looking better and better value. With Motorola streamlined, its phones finally with 4.x software on, an exciting launch of the X phone to look forward to, and its nice to hear that they can effectively stand up against patent rapists Apples.
What does Apple care? Apple has that much spare change under the couch cushions.
...because if this article is right the company Apple has lawsuits with in >50 countries worldwide, in an attempt to get them banned, suddenly finds itself dependant on a critical component. Paying more cash is only part of the problem, but your right in the fact that is the least of its worries, not being able to fulfil demand is a greater problem.
fucking power connectors and power specs for the phones weren't standard.
I'm sorry Apples power connectors aren't standard, USB FYI is. perhaps if Apple had followed the industry standard rather than implementing its own incompatible to itself...and requiring a an ARM processor inside to fix its lack of forward thinking cables. Your off-topic the reality is Apple is a closed cancer ward does not allow third party stores; Development on platforms other than its own; First party Applications that conflict with its own; It again has proprietary connectors; Cables; API's; proprietary programs; Poor computer interaction; follows no industry standards...and does so only for the sake of locking -in its dwindling market-share of customers, who have been overpaying for their cheap Chinese electronics for years....in context of this article, those Chinese electronics suddenly got much more expensive:)...in context of your comment its a closed prison cell...with a man named Bob suddenly finding you more attractive than he should...and you have forgotten your shank.
No, no its not. Its proprietary hardware; proprietary software; locked down; it even uses it own cables. In every way it breaks standards. It wasn't even a bad thing for its customers...until recently.
Let me stop you there. Having lots of cash on hand is a poor sign for a company. The fact that this article is about shrinking margins...on the heals of Apples shrinking sales, and Apple are looking little prepared for it. Technology companies burn through money on the way down. They could still invest the money...but that takes time to realise.
Yeah, that'll be a real disaster, what with Apple being so short of cash and all.
Except right now 35% of Apples value got chopped of Apples Value due to slightly less than expected sales and shrinking margins, Judging by Foxconn cutting iProduct manufacture, and this news I guess we get to see a repeat of Apples share drop...and with it an awful lot of brand support.
Time for an iFab. Apple can easily foot the bill for a new fab anywhere they want. Hopefully in the USA.
The fact its an entirely different business from manufacturing they rebadging foxconn phones, its what up until recently so profitable [not so much anymore...ask foxconn] where Apple make 40% and Faoxconn make about 3%, setting up facilities even if they manage to move that much money around, takes time and planning, and whatever they so they will shit on the USA.
Apple much to its disgrace has large amounts of unused cash around, that perhaps it should have invested earlier, but buying out Samsung is simply not even close to being a reality, Samsungs market cap sits at $200Billion admittedly half that of Apples Plummeting Market cap of $400Billion, but it is far too large for Apple to buy.
I think I heard of this site when I first heard about Linux.. probably before 2000. I think I visited it twice in my life. Then and today. That's so old.
And that's one ugly site. I have nothing against those retro photos, but it's a real bad selection of colors.
I still check the site daily...its part of my game bookmarks, and the design is surprisingly clean. I always liked it.
The iWatch will issue a quick and decisive butt kicking to this useless bauble.
Why? In fact there is a big question whether anyone wants an iwatch at all. Currently I see many manufactures with smart watches coming Sony; Samsung; Google to name a few. Apple unlike its incredible run of iPod, iPhone, iPad has no advantages (Large American Fanbase!?)...and several disadvantages; vertical integration a past advantage has been squandered for short term profits (admittedly vast profits)...and is now a disadvantage. The [as yet vapourware] iwatch is launching into a very hostile, highly competitive *mature* market, with many major players...and products like this are already below $100 [and its very appealing].
I know Apple are Patent rapists, but should we care. The iPhone is still the second most popular phone range in the US but it is doing badly everywhere else. I have seen this video...I have seen this prior art mentioned...now 6 years later its invalidated...in one country, Android have already worked around this patent, and pretty nifty it is too, we even have some very fun alternative unlocking methods including fingertips and facial recognition.
Why are we not discussing the great technology from other manufacturing companies like IR being reintroduced to phones...or waterpoofing phones, or the ever growing screen size. Hell even compare two screen phones DS style to electronic paper/led screen phones. Lets discuss relevant electronics companies that innovate, in fact lets talk about that technology.
Windows is having a dip in sales because old machines "do the job". When a C2D does the job fine, why upgrade to the latest and greatest?
...no they don't do the job! They are awful in every way. Where is my Android compatibility on obscenely high DPI on a 32" screen with a keyboard with LED keys? Where is all these manufacturers reinventing the Desktop...and no I don't mean Windows OS X or GNOME 3...I suspect what I want is GNU/Chrome? with serious corperate backing. Why I am still buying a tower pc in one part, rather than stacking the bits I want like lego bricks. Why can I not use the CPU in my Phone to power my desktop without wires...and cloud storage?
...Why is the PC the same as the one I bought in 1995?
The story might have been relevant to my interests in 2002. But it's clear now Linux is going to skip popularity on desktops and just do mobile instead.
Linux has been gaining market share on all platforms including the Desktop. The Desktop is just not sexy right now with, Windows Desktop users having a slight dip sales and Apple its a disaster on the Desktop...but Linux suddenly is checking all the boxes. Personally though I'm loving the support of having a shared kernel with its more successful market.
And most of the commercial Linux games are pretty expensive. That's going to be a tough sell as a Steam box.
Your talking about legacy gaming, Modern gaming is cross-platform, with Windows being a shrinking platform [Microsoft treating the the Windows Desktop as an xbox ugly stepchild; its gamers like its prison bitches DRM victims; child only games], with Linux/Android being a massive groth industry [and a refuge for Valves business model:)]
It's funny how people are quick to make fun of Windows Phone. It's like they don't realize that Windows Phone has market share that is 3-4 times larger than desktop Linux's market share.
Its not funny, its depressing. Linux occupys about 75% of the phone market compared to Microsoft 2.6% [Less if we count incompatible OS] at the cost of Nokia/Microsoft represent market shares of 25%/10% highs before their merger [self mutilation].
It shows how well Linux shines compared to Microsoft when Microsoft it unable to use its Oppressive Microsoft Monopoly [or simply by being one] can successfully restrict competition. When you see Microsoft complaining [and throwing Billions at the problem] it can't get market share by not being able to access first party Google apps; not getting carriers to sell its product. Its kind or ironic. The fact that its not a good product just an aside
Linux on the Desktop continues to grow, nobody is noticing, because the Desktop is not sexy right now, both to the shame of Apple and Microsoft, but funny never...I feel for those Nokia employees, that have been sacrificed for this White Elephant.
3 phones against several dozen, less than 10% apart in sales. No they'll never quite be 'android levels of adoption'... are you Tupe666 in disguise?
Ironically in the sense of this article Apple have *one* phone so its not an excuse [Although they desperately need an iphone nano/mini]. HTC are having difficulty competing right now, and one of the reasons was too many models not enough differentiation.
Of course it was. But the fact that "Paris Hilton uses it" meant immensely more to most people than "she got owned because it was absurdly easy to hack" demonstrates security is not something that matters at all to most of Apple's customers, and thus is not something that Apple feels a need to matter to them.
No! not in the slightest. People who *admire* Paris Hilton...definitely not "most"(sic) or even some, but that select group of people who are swayed by her. I suspect it actually did a lot of harm, as many of that select group, who I would not be astonished would have given iPhones by Apple as (cough) gifts, as those people love exposure, but only the type they manage. I suspect those people have ditched those phones now.
Everyday these kind of news get more and more hilarious.Soon the owner of the coffee shop accross the street will make his own smartphone brand.(Because an app was too mainstream)
Except a Facebook phone was inevitable; Of the "Pack of four" only Amazon is yet to release a kindle phone that is a done deal, Microsoft don't have a surface phone yet, and that is inevitable [once there is only patents to pick from Nokias Carcass]. Other than that its the same electronics companies that have been around for years. There are a few competing Linux based OS's but those are going to be whittled down very quickly.
No Windows phone is terrible,in every way. The latest saga of bribing developers to set up RSS web site applications to artificially inflate their App store numbers is a disgrace. Windows phone 7 actually gained some positive reviews and since then its just been burning through that karma. As for Privacy, Microsoft is a disgrace, I think the way they acted in china says it all. http://searchengineland.com/google-china-congressional-praise-38796

I live in Europe, and I've yet to see a single Windows Phone here. In Stockholm, the big 3 seem to be iPhone, Samsung, HTC.
And some Nokias, but nearly as many as you'd think, given that the company's home base is next door in Finland.
Samsung and HTC both make windows phones. They are simply not as popular as there android equivalents.

So, I'll answer the question with "Nah! They're doing fine!" just to be Troll.
Its more likely going to move the discussion onto redefining the word troll.
the effect of Paris Hilton's phone getting hacked was to vastly increase the sales of the model
I think that was more down to accidental celebrity endorsement than any security vulnerability.
