My Senator (Klobuchar, MN) has been a dick on both the August FISA bill and voting for the MoveOn.org condemnation. I want to see her vote, not this good-old-boy "unanimous" stuff.
I've got news for you. If it's unanimous, then that means she voted for it.
Yeah, I'm the same way. When I was shopping for a new car last year I tried a few out for a while. I'd go out late at night, jimmy the locks, and then test drive them for a week or so before returning them.
I know cars aren't the same as software, but I'd only take them from the long term parking lot at the airport, so it's not like anyone didn't have them back when they needed them.
The people smart enough to consider this question are probably more intelligent than 85% of those who actually will vote. Therefore, not voting because you don't think you are informed enough results in fewer votes by smart people. It puts more power in the hands of the stupid.
Unfortunately, the way most people vote puts more power in the hands of the stupid, too.
The parent is right, copyright infringement is not theft. It's more like sneaking into a half empty movie theatre without paying (disregarding the trespassing angle). It doesn't deprive the theatre owner of anything tangible, but you do get to see the movie without paying.
Making infringed material available for others is like holding the door open so all your friends can come in too. And their friends, and their friends, and their friends...
Oh, wait. You meant your phone provider.
Nevermind.
