The solution is "The Grid", a parallel network used to transmit and process data to/from the seven processing and archiving stations around the world
Here's how it works: http://gridcafe.web.cern.ch/gridcafe/index.html
Everyone working with Windows downloads Microsoft's patches every now and then. This is done today. If every now and then the update is a little bit bigger it's not a problem. The issue here is that the update should not be equalt to a re-install
They can wiretap everyone else in the world but I don't want our government wiretapping us without the usual requisite warrants.
That is a typically american comment! Get out of this NIMBY syndrome. As long as they don't wiretap you , you're ok with them tapping everyone else in the world. Grow up! Everyone is entitled to some degree of privacy. A guy called Mustafa or Mohammed has the same rights to privacy as a guy named George, even if they live in completely different parts of the world.
Somehow all new technology starts at outrageous prices, and eventually settles at a more acceptable level later on. First industry makes a buck out of few users, because they don't have the capacity to serve a lot of them, so they limit their numbers through high prices. There will always be rich people or total technology freaks who'll buy the newest stuff for what you and I take as outrageous prices (not to say a rip-off), but what are you gping to do about it? Wait for the prices to drop;-)
I'd say it's better to develop an OpenDRM
As DRM is here to stay, better fight against it by delivering a better product ( and maybe forcing the propietary DRM's to evolve), than trying to shout at them to stop !
I wish there was a "+1 sad but true" ...
