You know, people have had the opinion of "they did that to me so I'll do this to them" for quite a long time and this has led to more suffering than is conceivable. You seem to assume that anyone who is not tech-savvy is one of the "in-crowd". What about those interested in arts, philosophy, history and other humane subjects(I believe that is what you call them). Do not make the mistake of seeing "tech-savvy" as "intelligent". I agree, society can suck, but if we don't rise above it, it will stay that way. The most important part of all humans is to have respect for all human beings AS human beings, whatever their position in society. I hope everyone understood the spirit of this post, as I have a certain ability to ramble. =/
Actually, if those money would be put into the task of getting the BNP of say, the entire african continent, to rise by effectively supporting up and coming companies in these areas and of course schools and the like. Of course, you also have to get rid of some of the really corrupt governments in a lot of these countries(of course, the american government would be against this). Then we're a step closer to a working market economy world(no, it's not working right now, see the 2-3 billion really, REALLY poor people in developing countries). I wonder if market economy would be able to take the influx of workers demanding actual money.
This is happening in Sweden too, I saw a news show a few months ago about how there is so much data to transfer so we won't have new copies of everything until the things we copied first are in danger of corruption.
Gilliam and Tony Grisoni(Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) will write the screenplay. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett tried to write a screenplay for the movie once but they got burnt when the production started changing it. As Neil Gaiman put it:
"Terry Pratchett and I have elected not to get involved--we both got our fingers burned some years ago trying to write a Good Omens movie for Sovereign Pictures, for producers who bought Good Omens and then immediately began trying to turn it into something else. We decided that this time around we would give the book to people who seemed to understand it and let them make the film."
Don't go putting the scientist and geek communities on a piedestal here. The meaning of civilisation(IMO) is for the largest amount of people to have the best living conditions possible, with the largest amount I hope for 100%. Don't get me wrong here, they shouldn't have to get permission from religious leaders but there has to be serious debate on the subject with representatives from all communities involved. If we say "RELIGION SUXORS NADZ" as soon as they have something to say about scientific stuff we're no better than them. Remember that. Man, I really need to learn how not to ramble on =/
Maybe because you should never have to risk getting CTS in the first place, by forcing all the companies to have ergonomic workplaces a lot of people will live a better life.
You mean they haven't been taking it seriously until now? Man they are slow =( I hope I'm not lying when I'm saying that the swedish government is really focusing on it.. at least that's the impression I got. If you have another story please correct me =)
Violations of human rights and other things like that should ALWAYS be pointed out, you shouldn't keep silent just because your own country isn't very good at it. Of course you should never say that your own country is perfect if it isn't but I don't believe that was what he was doing.
Actually, I think that the number of children getting conceived(hope that's the right word) is a lot higher when the electricity is out so you can't watch TV or whatever. So yes, people procreate more when they have less to do.
Well, since Sweden has a population of about 9 million and that's almost decreasing(I believe it would have without migration last year), I think they would have plenty of time to do something about the situation if it would be required.
Well.. Sweden is one of the countries where a lot of attention has been paid to the y2k problem in general I would think they had figured out what to do about this. I believe there was a discussion about this a few years ago but I don't really remember. I wouldn't worry about the swedish government forgetting something like that.
I think you're really underestimate those 90%. I would probably count as one because I believe in science foremost but I also believe that there may very well be a higher intelligence that created the universe. To believe everything it says in the Bible or something like it is just dumb though. Of course, I might be wrong in thinking that a large part of those 90% don't truly believe in any specific religion or scripture of a religion as I'm so used to living in one of the most agnostic countries in the world(Sweden).

I think not, here's a little roundup of reviews(ripped from The Shugashack):
People will realize that productivity isn't really that important and that they can have more fun and be more happy by just taking life a bit easier.
