    0.125 meters, or 12.5 cm.

    I do believe that if you have a thimble-sized cup of water, smaller than 12.5cm, it WILL heat up in a microwave oven...

    Check it out... in the e-mail they send to members, they don't even tell you what the new agreement is that you're agreeing to, you have to go to a web page (which can be changed w/o your knowledge). Nice way to have a binding contract done, eh?

    One forced upgrade that I'm really pissed about right now is that of internet explorer.

    Sure, most people who use it are using versions 5.01 or 5.5 right now.... but what about those who aren't? I actually PREFER version 4.02 to the latter stuff, but with the bug that was on /. a few days ago, it mentioned that they didn't put out a patch for 4.02, let alone even test to see if it HAD the bug! So now I have to be veeeery wary when using IE4... sucks.

    It would be really great to see the new amiga OS take off. They have the technology there to pull it off, now they just need the marketing.

    Cross-platform programming with the new amiga OS is really great: you have one generic binary labeled progname.00, and when you run it on your system, it recompiles it into a native binary, say, progname.03. There is a different suffix for each platform that amiga supports, and any program written for the generic new amiga platform can be run on any platform that new amiga supports... even if that platform did not exist when the program was originally written!

    You can get antennas from such places as HyperLink Technologies that can give you up to a 24 dBi improvement. A combination of a good antenna with good outdoor placement can do wonders for a lot of people.

    I am pretty sure this is a joke, as unless the data is somewhat specialized (sound, pictures, moving pictures, to name a few), then it is very difficult to quantify which parts of the data to get rid of when compressing.

    You can't just take some random file, drop a few bits here and there, and expect it to be usable on the other side. It works for JPEG, MPEG video, and MPEG audio because they know precisely how human senses work.

    Speed limits exist for a reason. I have never been in a wreck when I was driving, but as a passenger I have been ejected from a car and another time my friend tried to avoid an animal in the road, overcorrected and sent us into a guardrail at 80mph. I can speak first hand of the pain caused by wrecks that would not have happened had my friends been driving the speed limit.

    My question to you is, why were you in the car with someone who was endangering your life? You have only yourself to blame.

    The issue here is not whether going to fast is bad (we already know that), and not whether speed limits should be changed (that's a whole other argument), but the nasty implications of this.

    The potential for a black market is obvious, and there may be people already investigating this. The privacy implications are also preposterous. This technology allows cops to get around a few things in the constitution, if they try hard enough. (Maybe not technically, but it'll effectively be guilty until proven innocent.)
