> And, btw, what is the FBI doing going after a brazilian national anyway? Isn't that slightly out of their jurisdiction?
From TFA: "According to the report, the fed only requested help from USA in early 2009, after experts from the National Institute of Criminology (INC) failed to decode the passwords on the hard drives."
It's badly translated, but "fed" is the Brazilian Federal Police and INC is a Brazilian institute.

Article 20 of the proposed legislation (Google translated)
"The Internet service provider may only be liable for damages arising from content generated by third parties if it is notified by the victim and not take steps to, within the framework of their service and within reasonable time, make unavailable the content identified as infringing."
Why don't you whitelist the blocks from your region instead? Banning Brazil is a stupid thing because:
a. The majority of spammers aren't using Brazilian IP's; b. The majority of Brazilian IP's aren't being used by spammers, legitimate users will come and they should not be blocked.
Besides that's kind of a dick move, the US has been the top spam source for years and no one banned their IP ranges.
...the Communist government of Kerala (the state with the highest literacy rate in India) has announced its all-out support for FOSS... It sounds more like a Pro-Communist propaganda than FUD against FOSS.
This 300 Kbps tier is adequate for most basic Internet tasks such as web, email and even VoIP And here am I, in the third world, stuck with a 300k ADSL while paying a fortune for it.
Sometimes it's quite depressing to read Slashdot, you guys have high definition TVs, next-gen consoles, fast broadband services and free Wifi, while in this part of the world it's either not avaliable or too expensive. The Wii, for example, costs more than the equivalent of 1000 USD here.
Perhaps Google has any plans to extend this project worldwide?:)
I have an old Win98 box where i could never use Firefox. It just takes 30 seconds to load. Opera 8 is a bit faster (10 secs), but IE6 is the only thing I can use without getting stressed.
Oh god, I forgot to select "plain old text".

Perhaps Google could make a Summer of Code for the southern hemisphere too. I'd love to participate if it were in January.

Startup time was just an example. Opera and Firefox are slow while browsing too (opening menus, dialogs, scrolling, etc).

Last week we experienced a temperature of 43C (109F) here in Brazil, and the humidity was very low.
The country this IP is from (Brazil) has won the World Cup 5 times (+5) heh.
