"I see history repeat it self as it happened with Digg, "
Digg wasn't the first time either. Long ago, there was usenet, then the endless summer when the idiots showed up. Slashdot reached the endless summer long ago, and now it's just getting stupider.
"Or shitting on the star spangled banner in front of the white house."
Actually you could legally do that. If you get arrested, it won't be for the commentary, just exposing yourself in public and littering. People did use the flag for shorts and underware all through the sixties.
"And yet, the worst abuses of power by the governments Federal and local alike tend to happen on the Democrats' watch..."
The democrats weren't in charge for the last eight years, actually longer. A time of some of the worst abuses of power in recent memory(since Reagan) and that technically isn't over yet, at least, not until the new president has a good reign on everything. He won't for at least six months. Right now, we're still seeing the abuses from the republicans being in charge.
Except that many town/city addressed companies(not just one per town/city either), as a part of normal operations, have enough chemicals on-hand to vaporize/poison the same town/city and often do covertly(public learns in about 20 years, love canal). Those companies are potential bombs controlled by an individual or group of individuals. Every so often a near accident happens and no one thinks twice about the risk(happened recently). So I see no reason that an individual can't have a gun. Explain that one away.
The wikipedia article reads like the courts went out of their way to make it look like they weren't trying to burn these kids even though they were making a example of them all along.
So the law is actually illegal by being sexually discriminating. Golly gee-willikers.
We really need a good multi-politician lynching, something along the size of state legislatures, governors, and congress all at once. Prosecutors are special case, game show, then lynch. These political freaks need a little fear put into them so common sense will actually have a chance, maybe a little direct old fashioned public response(lynchings) would work, so far, nothing else has.
I hope the girls don't kill themselves because the prosecutor blew the entire thing out of proportion and into the public eye. Damn idiot.
Is it just me that noticed that it took six years for this case to get through the court system. Proper and timely justice it isn't. When will they get around to doing something about it? Maybe when the girl's kids are strip-searched.
"Her assertion should not be misread to infer that she never broke school rules," the district said of Ms. Redding in a brief, "only that she was never caught."
So I guess "presumption of innocence", a cornerstone concept of this country, is truly dead.
"Programming more importantly is problem analysis, figuring out how to use the tools and information you have to build towards a solution"
Kind of like um, algebra!! How many kids fail that every year? Come on guys, schools have little time and enough problems teaching the basics to the general public without forcing fanboyist specialist classes. Another forced class for everyone regardless of interest, like kids that can barely make it don't have enough annoying shit in their day. And that's just in school. Remember, most of the tech crap people will use is in the end user spectrum of a simple polished control and not in depth programming. The public only cares about will this toy get my current work done in my short interest time frame. Nevermind everything else that's he/she is doing. Anything complicated is a no-go, that includes programming.
If its another way to teach algebra and other concepts it's useful but in general it just adds to an already complicated day something that many won't use.
"when you have plain old unsecured websites with for-pay preteen sex shows that have been operating for years without problems, something is WRONG."
And when we aim ads at children selling shit that is often bad for them, are we any better? Face it, we all use kids for money. There are also lots of other examples in the west that are accepted and encouraged, much of it is wrong but it's fine as long as money is being made. Hypocrisy seems to be doing just fine in here in America.
Except that's what federal highway funds are for, you know the money that we pay in various taxes for roads. Tolls are just duplication and should be handled accordingly. (political leader lynchings, anyone?)
Yes there is a difference, libel is measured by financial damage, otherwise it's just bs. These people need to stop whining and grow a thicker skin before they walk into someone who can afford to smash them into the ground. Essentially they've taken what are non-actions(words) and taken action in response(court and potential harassment) and now that they have chosen to take action against potential threats and made them real threats if not outright enemies, what do you think their response will be? Somehow I don't think it will be more meaningless words. Worse those taken action against are now justified in their aggressive response. Eye for an Eye comes to mind soon enough. If not more extreme actions to push the bar higher. Both sides are damn fools. It's simpler to have the perpetrators banned by the service or have the messages removed.
Words are not actions. It's just words. Now if you take harmful action then the action and your choice to take it is whats the danger, the words are just hot air. Offensive words are not illegal, if they were, we'd all be in jail at least once given the constantly changing viewpoints in this country. It's the actions people take in response or in fear of words that creates the various prisons, massacres, lynchings, etc.
"Bill Pullman's presidential speech in Independence Day is better than any speech our last five presidents have given, just putting that out there."
Forget Pullman, Douglas in "The american president" was better.
Finally a reference to the bsds. I thought of openbsd when I saw this story.

"but should not be seen as evidence that Thailand is a dictatorial state."
Actually it is, just the king isn't the dictator. Too bad in some respects, it seems like he'd be a fairly benevolent one.

"causing the government in power to revoke even more rights of the people to prevent future uprisings. For the sake of "security.""
That track often leads to more general uprisings and rather bloody civil wars.
"government can and will resist, as it should."
Wow!! A government of the people, for the people should resist the people's will. Who would have thought. Kind of pointless isn't it?
Except that many town/city addressed companies(not just one per town/city either), as a part of normal operations, have enough chemicals on-hand to vaporize/poison the same town/city and often do covertly(public learns in about 20 years, love canal). You guys up there aren't on earth anymore. Just because people down here are acting like idiots doesn't mean you have to. Put up or ignore them.
"No, bad laws make them criminals."
Let's not forget bad prosecutors and politicians.
The wikipedia article reads like the courts went out of their way to make it look like they weren't trying to burn these kids even though they were making a example of them all along.
"aren't exploited kids being molested"
Actually they are being exploited, by the law! Abolish law and the ambitious control freaks enforcing it, problem fixed
But isn't that child exploitation?
Except, they are being exploited, by the prosecutor. Lock him up.
So the law is actually illegal by being sexually discriminating. Golly gee-willikers.

"and trodden upon because they don't have the social skills to deal with bullies and assholes."
Going to school doesn't guarantee that they'll get those skills, just get downtrodden at a younger age.

It's also called extortion.
