Not much point in getting the source to the latest version of Zimbra anyway. All the really good stuff like Outlook\Blackberry integration is not and has never been open source (of any description).
I have to disagree with the comment of "you can only go so far with a web interface".
Modern corporate webmail clients can do almost anything a desktop client can. Drag and drop int calendar - sure, we use GMS WebMail and it has done this for years.
Plenty of folks use Outlook without Exchange. Exchange is just awlful - expensive and hard to administer. We use it at work with Gordano messaging suite. Does all the stuff that Exchange does, is cheaper, faster and dead easy to use. There are plenty of other servers out there doing similar stuff.

PS - best description of Outlook I've read in years. It is truely a giant pig without legs and I would guess Outlok 2007 has put on weight:-)
Why restrict yourself to Scalix? If you want to use a Commercial product (yes I know Scalix offer a free version but it's pretty restrictive and if you want more then you have to pay big bucks) then there are plenty out there. We recently looked at quite a few - Scalix, Gordano, Kerio, Ipswitch etc and found that the Gordano product (http://www.gordano.com/ offered the best solution - great webmail calendaring, Outlook Sync, Apple iCal\Sunbird support, mobile access - all works neatly together, worth the extra over the others (cheaper than Scalix though). Scalix was nice and pretty but a nightmare to install and configure. Gordano was child's play.
I used to work for Praxis and worked on the air traffic control project mentioned. Although Praxis uses Z, ADA and SPARC now when this project was done it was written in..... C using VDM for it's design. The right language does help but it is not essential. I left just as ADA\SPARC was getting going after spending 6 months writing a Z specification - believe me this is a hard way to develop software but it does pay you back.

We use Gordano product at work and are completely happy with it. Most of us use the GMS Webmail bit and can share our contacts\calendars just fine. A few use the Outlook plugin (MAPI which you need to install separately) which synchronizes nicely with the Webmail part. Nice and fast too.

Except it doesn't always work. Tried subscribing to my work calendar and it failed miserably. Back Sunbird then! Simon
