A friend of mine in the UK spend 3000 Great British Pounds Sterling Quid on a new PC (that's roughly $6,000 USD to you Yanks). It's got vista on it, naturally. He asked me to look at it because absolutely nothing works on it, except the screen, keyboard and mouse. Not 1 of the 10 or so games he bought will even install, let alone run. Can't get on the internet to look for Vista drivers because it won't recognize the wireless NIC. If it was XP, I might be able to help him out. But I've never even seen Vista and refuse to touch it even if I had someone else hands to touch it with.
So he's effectively paid 3 grand for a silent hi-def DVD player.
My company uses all that Sharepoint crap too. And guess what? It NEVER works consistently or reliably.
So, the people fuck around with MS tools like Sharepoint, spend all their time fucking around with MS tools like Sharepoint.
And the people who get things done (like ship product), use tools like Twiki for discussions and colaboration. (Mostly from Linux desktops I hasten to add).
And you can't open an account with the Bank of England as a normal citizen as its not a regular bank with branches on every High Street. Even the Queen doesn't bank with the Bank of England. She uses Coutts Private Bank.

Try using live.com with IE and extra large fonts enabled. I tried it on IE just to see how bad it was (I always use Firefox). Any, the result is an un-godly mess. It's so bad it's actually funny and just goes to show how much testing MS put in with their own browser, let alone anyone elses.
Actually, as I recall, all web sites in IE with extra large fonts are an un-godly mess.
I'll agree with you on the HP-UX issue. I have to develop for a large customer base on legacy HP kit and it's a pain to develop on. Most cool Linux tools, as you say, don't exist, won't compile or are woefully out of date. Case in point, netstat on the latest HP-UX 11i version that I have access to (on a server not 6 months old) is the 1999 version. It doesn't even support the '-p' to show you the immensly useful 'program name' that is on the local end of a socket. Only the man page date has been updated from the 1999 version and some kind of horribly unreadable bolding effect.
I could go into similar and more detail on a host of tools like strace, ptrace, bash, an X-windows GUI from the late 80's, etc.
Suffice to say I develop only on Linux and port to HP-UX for testing and building on the target OS.
Mine was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16k Model that could only do black & white (I think it was branded as Timex in the US). But my mate had a ZX-80 before me. The game of "Pong" consisted of a '>' on the left side of the screen, a '' on the right side and the ball was a '.'.
The first one I ever bought myself was an Atari ST 512k Model with 1MB 3.5" FDD about 4 years later.

Why don't you learn how to program in C and then write it yourself, instead of sitting around on your lazy ass waiting for someone else to do it?
