  1. Re:SVG on PDF Alternatives? · · Score: 1

Try this for an example of how SVG could be used as a replacement.

    Requires an SVG viewer.

Well not yet maybe but the potential is there. Take librsvg (or better if there is one), strip out any remaining Nautilus/GNOME dependencies, perhaps glib too for max. portabillity,,. wrap it up in a SDL based viewer.

Now you've got a document format that can be created in anything that outputs SVG (or anything that can be converted to SVG) including text editors.

Next step, displaySVG (hell might as well go all the way) as an alternative to X as a cross platform windowing system.

Is an operating system that runs on top of another operating system really an operating system, or just a shell/SDK/whatever?

Well at the moment it's an SDK, but there were plans to run Amiga DE native.

    If I run GNU/Linux on VMWare is GNU/Linux a shell/SDK/whatever?

I don't think this will be the case in Europe, considering Sony seem to think you would want to watch a DVD through a coaxial cable, having cunningly disabled the SCART output, supposedly to defeat piracy.

Actually this was our friends the DVDCCA fault.
They dictate that any european DVD player can only output RGB through a scart socket
(i.e. a scart socket on the player).
    This excludes sonys AV socket.

Oh..I didn't know you were not allowed to write GPL'd software on a closes source OS.

    Yes that is sarcasm!
