I guess Microsoft employees can now stop calling them blogcasts

Of course it's Microsoft Technology - who else should the slashdot community blame for technology that sucks? surely not the previous owner of everything Ajax - they're not evil.

  4. Re:What Resellerratings.com has to say about them on Consumer Strikes Back at Crooked Online Retailer · · Score: 1

Interestingly enough, their resellerrating score was 5.5 yesterday. Which is still pretty bad, but it shows that a single story (when linked at the right places) can have a pretty big impact on your online ratings.

Considering this change was established by votes from people who never actually delt with this company themselves, it shows how easily online ratings can be abused, for better (fake positive ratings to make yourself seem good - which it looks like they did at epinions) or worse (fake negative ratings for a competitor?).

Worse than that, when this story was posted on digg yesterday, a lynchmob formed that barraged the vendor with prank calls, emails, black faxes and ddos attacks.

All without anyone verifying whether there's any truth to the original story of course...

awesome - two 1024x768 screens (a whopping 7% more pixels than a single 1400x1050 screen), a superfast 933Mhz pentium III and 4 USB 1.1 ports! all that at a price of only $4995? it's a bargain!

They're not writing about you downloading a 2.4k chunk of Rome, they're writing about "unauthorized distribution", i.e. the fact that you're allowing others to download copyrighted works from your PC.

I guess they downloaded a full episode of Rome over BitTorrent, keeping track of the IPs that delivered the data. 2.4k of it came from your PC.

IANAL, but am pretty sure that the fact that it's only 2.4k doesn't matter since enough 2.4k chunks will eventually make up an entire episode.

I agree Atom is much better specified than RSS, and would love to see it completely replace RSS, but that's not going to happen any time soon (or ever most likely)

So from a developer's perspective, we now have yet one more format to support (or 2 if you go by your logic and count RSS as 9)

How exactly does this help developers?

  9. Re:RSS vs. ATOM on RSS Wins, Signals Atom's Death Toll? · · Score: 1
    From the RSS 2.0 spec:
A channel may contain any number of <item>s. An item may represent a "story" -- much like a story in a newspaper or magazine; if so its description is a synopsis of the story, and the link points to the full story. An item may also be complete in itself, if so, the description contains the text ( entity-encoded HTML is allowed ; see examples), and the link and title may be omitted. All elements of an item are optional, however at least one of title or description must be present.
    sounds like support to me...
