  1. Ridiculous patents and Al Gore on Yahoo Patents Dynamic Page Generator · · Score: 1

I guess with all these silly patents being issued we are all lucky Al Gore didn't patent the Internet when he invented it.

  4. I already have a "Clotho" on Clotho.Org and the Coming Cyberclysm · · Score: 4

I already have some filtering systems that work very well. It doesn't use AI, it uses the real stuff. One is called Slashdot. I come here, where lots of interesting stuff gets posted every day. I don't have to surf the whole web, I get nice, neat little summaries of stuff that is likely to interest me. If -I- choose (not some AI program) to read more, I click a link. It's simple, effective, and evidence that the whole basis for the topic of this article is completely wrong.

  5. Not Necessarily So on The Coming Cyberclysm - Part One · · Score: 1

Some others have pointed out that you don't have to use technology just because it's there. That's very true. Just because the library has thousands of books, doesn't mean you need to read them all. Libraries didn't bring about the fall of civilization, technology won't either. I believe what we are seeing now with technology and modern gadgets is an experimental "dating" stage. People are interested in all the new gadgets because they are new and exciting, like a first date. Once you get familiar with the technology (or the person you are dating) you begin to realize you don't have to be with them every second of every day. You later realize you don't WANT to be with them every second of every day. That doesn't mean you throw it all away. It just means you learn to live, and settle down. I personally believe people and technology are heading for a long and happy "marriage".

  6. Re:So much for moderation on Galileo's Daughter · · Score: 1

" The actions of these high profile screwballs stick everyone else with a label. If you don't like the label, get rid of the screwballs. " Do you mean "screwballs" like George Bush, who once publically stated that he didn't think atheists were citizens. This is a scary statement coming from the (at the time) President of the United States. Screwballs come in all shapes and sizes, it's the ones with power you have to watch out for. Galalieo found that out.

  7. Re:Galileo not inventor on Galileo's Daughter · · Score: 1

While it's true Galileo didn't invent the telescope, I have to question your claims that is was used to tell three days in advance that a ship was coming. As slow as ships were at the time, it still took less than three days to to move into or out of line-of-sight... and telescopes are line-of-sight devices.

  8. Re:Squating? on "N-word".com Owned by NAACP · · Score: 1

That was my reaction also. The story stated that the NAACP had no intention of using the domain names they bought. I understand their motivation for buying the names, but it seems like they should use them or loose them... link them to their own site or use them for a anti-hate message or something. Regardless, someone could just come along and tack "anti-" in front of all of those domain names and have a new one. They really haven't accomplished anything.

  10. Re:Having everyone always moderate is dangerous on Moderation Ideas · · Score: 1

While I agree with everyone being able to moderate at all times, the SlashClient would be overkill. Simply adding a "rating box" right next to "[Reply to This]" where you could enter a number (possibly between -100 and 100), and then adding a "[Submit Your Ratings]" button at the top and/or bottom of each page would do the trick. As far as moderating the moderators... that seems like an unneeded complication. Allowing everyone to vote will weed out the disfunctional minority. Each person could then set their own personal preferences to whatever level of absurdity/enlightenment they want.
