Plus the overall amount of red staplers available to the workforce has decreased by an incalculable amount that, for unfathomable reasons, is measured in a library of congress amount of staples times Boeing 747 total stapler length.
And draconian DRM is one of the reasons (along with for example their recent move against free speech) Amazon is on my list of boycotted companies. It's too bad for them because I shopped there frequently (and even shortly considered moving hosting operations there), and it's too bad for me because they were convenient. If they had some ethics I would more than willingly send them my money, but alas. There are more than enough smaller competitors willing to take my money instead...
I'm not personally willing to sponsor there kind of companies anymore, but I have no illusion my actions will make a lot of difference... Some people even claim this will make zero difference because even when a giant company like Amazon would slowly go bankrupt because of massive boycotting by a lot of consumers a new company with 'respawn' (most likely with the same bunch of CEO) and take it's place. But in my opinion injustice needs to be fought even at impossible odds, shopping somewhere else is a small price top pay...
They're highly unpredictable, highly random, and hugely difficult to take down as a collective because there isn't a collective per se.
And this is exactly what scares the shit out of totalitarian governments... All their regular methods of taking down an organization will fail miserably, and probably only add in some way to the Streisand Effect of whatever they are trying to stop...
It's like an enemy that can't be fought without losing. They may mostly be script-kiddies, but I recognize Anonymous as the powerful movement that it is; an unstoppable voice of the people.

It amazes me that none of these people in supposed mortal danger have been killed in a false flag operation by agents posing as Taliban just to prove a point and legitimize the war on free speech... And before saying that is way to paranoid remember the US and UK are not above false flag terrorism.
Oh Eric Arthur Blair, great writer and prophet of the 20th century... All your predictions have come true one way or another. Your 'fiction' really was the prophecy of the 21st century. May you rest in peace never having to see the events that take place today...
We have that already, it's called a 'From' field and this is the spec (emphasis mine):
The From request-header field, if given, SHOULD contain an Internet e-mail address for the human user who controls the requesting user agent. The address SHOULD be machine-usable, as defined by "mailbox" in RFC 822 [9] as updated by RFC 1123 [8]:
From = "From" ":" mailbox
An example is:
From: webmaster@w3.org
This header field MAY be used for logging purposes and as a means for identifying the source of invalid or unwanted requests. It SHOULD NOT be used as an insecure form of access protection. The interpretation of this field is that the request is being performed on behalf of the person given, who accepts responsibility for the method performed. In particular, robot agents SHOULD include this header so that the person responsible for running the robot can be contacted if problems occur on the receiving end.
The Internet e-mail address in this field MAY be separate from the Internet host which issued the request. For example, when a request is passed through a proxy the original issuer's address SHOULD be used.
The client SHOULD NOT send the From header field without the user's approval, as it might conflict with the user's privacy interests or their site's security policy. It is strongly recommended that the user be able to disable, enable, and modify the value of this field at any time prior to a request.
We could amend this definition to include the definition: No from field implies that the user wishes not to be tracked. Or to prevent ambiguity that a standard value of 'anonymous@anonymous' would be used by all browsers indicating the same. For all users wishing to be tracked a value of UNIQUE_GENERATED_CODE@ORGANIZATION would be used to allow anonymous tracking. No cookies needed and adheres to current HTTP spec.
Sorry Amazon, DNS needs reliability and has to be *more* free from political involvement, not less freedom and more censorship like you will undoubtedly offer.
Just set the block message to something along the lines of: 'In accordance with company policy by decree of manager X access to this page is blocked until further notice.'. For extra effect add his internal phone number, of course you will then also need to mention your own number too with 'for all other technical non-policy related problems contact Y'.
True, but I also believe that just because someone is right it is no excuse to behave like a dick... and I notice that I'm more and more tempted to do just that...:(
It's hard to find a way to point out someones blatantly obvious flaws in a nice way when they resist changing their view about even the most basic things violently.
After being spoonfed BS for years you will grow to love it. You will probably roll over and ask for seconds and another free refill of your Cola(tm) to wash it down.
NOTE TO SELF: I should stop mocking, I actually feel sorry for these people and it's not nice to point out their flaws even if they themselves can help it.
You need to get media attention to make a splash. The wingers who did the whole ground zero mosque thing had their material out for months with no media interest.
You nailed the heart of a large part of the problem... A lot of scandals are just ignored by all but some obscure media outlets. Just look at some of the stories on Project Censored (and the fact that they even exist). It really does show information does not have to be hidden to be unknown to the world... And some of the regular media can continue to ignore or distort the truth indefinitely, research like this well known 2003 report showing Fox information distortion was a real eye opener to me...
They will inevitably end up with mistranslations like 'computer chips' that become 'las papas fritas con sal de la computadora'. I wonder if they can uphold a patent with these kinds of errors...
Excellent idea! It would be a great homage. But the question is who can we find that can possibly follow in Leslie Nielsens footsteps? He was one of a kind... But hey, they've been cutting back on real actors for a long time.

I'm fairly certain that even North Korea can crack WEP encryption in several days, or weeks tops...

And let us settle this once and for all with a precedent: The Internet always wins!
But I'm afraid the same can't be said for individual people...

Wow thanks!
This is a really useful tip! I just set my bookmark to https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=%25s+-buy+-purchase+-price+-shop and it works much better than regular Google searches.

Wanting to get the truth out is one thing, but wanting to make sure that the truth gets out *under your brand name* is another.
Why, that's almost like real journalists operate, always wanting to get the scoop first is one of their motivations... *This is a good thing*.
Shouldn't be a problem for local use or behind a VPN... other than that it's a bad idea.
And when a citizen does it to it's government it's called terrorism and they should be hunted down like the Taliban...

You ask why, but I think you know the answer...
I am familiar with Hanlon's razor, but they can't be this blatantly incompetent.
For those of us outside the US, all US politics are fucking hilarious.

As free speech zones are getting smaller and smaller so is the chance of non-violent protest... Makes total sense!
P.S. I think violence is not *right* by any means, but it can indeed be justice when it's the only option.
