Linux is a tinkerers and advanced users Operating system. The fact is that no matter what OS you use, the work still needs to get done and as cheaply as possible. With Linux, the tasks are mostly done in the command line(and i'll tell ya, Sometimes I can get more done in the console than in the GUI) which is so beutifully simple that a GUI just overcomplicates some things (not all the time, but some times). Why do we have to replace windoze at alL? Maybe it's just nerd pride.....

Lack of Apps? You must not have looked very hard. The GIMP = photoshop, and there are many HTML editors out there....

So your saying buy entire new computers every time a new version of windows comes out? And you still have to pay for Windoze, they don't go throwing it around free....
The truth is that Linux is an excellent operating system built by programmers FOR programmers... We don't need every home in the world running Linux... Lets concentrate on making it the best and most full featured operating system we can. Having it integrated in every home is just a side effect. After all, it's beutifully designed operating system (And it's not like Windoze is that bad either, I mean C'mon, give em a break!)
Linux was created by programmers, for programmers. If the average Joe expects to just plug in and go like some super-sysadmin, hes wrong.... The great thing about Linux is that its so configurable and open to custimization. Control over what your doing creates stability, if you do it right. So anyone that says, " Well Windoze is sooo much easier than Linux, I don't have to use that funny console thing at all!!" Thats fine with me, To each his own. (and by the way, MacOSX, Windows, BSD, Linux, and all the other modersn OS's are all equally easy to use. How hard is it for the average users (not the sysadmins) to point and click?)
Why even released it at alL? 99% of those idiot windows users don't even know what the heck a partition is..... How can you expect them to reformat the drive to WinFS and re-install Windows on top of it all??? Unless you can convert NTFS into WinFS, theres no hope for most users, but of course... theres always geeksquad.
