  1. Software Freedom on The GPL Impedes Linux More Than It Helps? · · Score: 1, Insightful

Without the GPL, Linux would not be prevalent now. Indeed, the BSD license provides absolute Freedom, Freedom such that software can then revert to being non-Free at the drop of a hat. Mac OS X is an example of this. Linux, however, by means of the GPL, will always be Free. Because of this, we do not have to be concerned that our software, our operating system, the very way we use our computers, will ever change. Rather than anarchy, the GPL respects and includes many Freedoms while ensuring that future users, and indeed our future selves as well, will continue to benefit from the software forever, rather than saying 'OK, here it is, do what you want with it, we don't care.' With the GPL, we can't be exploited by opportunistic software firms that want to release a product without much work. And we'll still be able to churn out superior software long into the future.

This is slightly off-topic, but I think that if someone is developing a Flash video for example they should consider placing the transcript online somewhere or even having captions/subtitles for those of us who are hard of hearing and deaf. No, it's not a requirement for animators do do this and it's certainly not a requirement, I just don't believe it's particularly to do the former (transcripts) and it would open up your content to a lot of people who would otherwise not be able to enjoy it.

This is bad. This is very bad. Computers and robots will soon join together and take over the world.

And since it's Linux we can't deactivate them with BSOD.

Am I the only one that thinks we should prepare for the coming of our new robot masters?

And no terrible actors whose initials are K. R. wearing sunglasses will save us this time.

You're absolutely right. Linux is far too inferior to be able to handle the complex eyecandy Vista offers. I mean, heck, Windows won't be able to support it until a year from now. Yup, I'd reckon Linux won't be able to support that for a few ye... Wait, isn't X11R7 coming out in October? Linux can't have graphics! It can't be able to support as much eyecandy a year sooner! They're just a bunch of kids writing code for free! This is madness!

I'd hope that only licensed medical professionals would have the capability of administering the therapy... But since it would probably not require much more than an injection, if it fell into the wrong hands...

  8. Re:unacceptable! on Australian Science Makes the Regenerating Mouse · · Score: 1

Keep in mind that if we had a gene therapy technology which would allow humans to gain the ability to regenerate, it's likely we'd also be able to genetically change the sex of the individual, which in combination with regenerative abilities would ultimate cause them to grow the genitalia in question. Hard to determine, however, is whether or not this would have any effect on the breasts of an FTM. As the person would already have grown the tissue (admittedly from having the wrong genitalia), would it regenerate if removed? It's unlikely that it would just disappear (as breasts in general don't do that), but hard to predict if bilateral mastectomy would have lasting effects with a genetic ability to regenerate tissue.
