Last I checked "genius" the walls of an airplane are made of solid metal, with the wiring behind the metal. That's what I was referring to, and no infrared mouse or remote or whatever is going to penetrate a metal wall.
My comment was unfairly marked troll. I stand by what I said. Blaming an optical mouse (whoever it may be, Airbus or Qantas) is just sheer stupidity. No way is an optical gadget going to "cause interference" with shielded electrical wiring or devices.
As for things like radios, when I worked for an airplane supplier we used devices that were resistant, not just to radio, but radioactive events. After all, airplanes don't have a lot of atmosphere to protect them - they get some bombardment from cosmic sources (mostly the sun) which can cause flipped bits. The hardware has to be able to handle these events without failure.
Also it's ridiculous to think an infrared mouse could cause interference. Being optical, there's no way it could penetrate and interfere with the wiring behind a WALL on an airplane. Light does not penetrate solid objects!
The folks at Qantas are just dodging blame like kid trying to pretend he didn't spill the milk. "The dog did it." "Um, er, the mouse did."
Next I suppose you will tell me it's better to burn 5 gallons of gasoline/pollution, so I can give my flourescent light to the recyling center rather than just trash it.
Pass. Batteries are completely harmless in a landfill. The only exception to that is NiCad, so if your device is using NiMH or Li-Ion you can just toss it.
Obviously they want you to buy a new Ipod, not fix the old one.
The batteries in my toothbrush died and opening it was extremely easy. Just set the brush on the charger base, twist, and out pops the "guts" of the brush. You can then remove the toxic NiCad batteries and dispose of them properly, while throwing the rest of the thing in the trash.
Liberalism == Socialism == Communism with a belief in god.
I'm not supporting that. It's anti-liberty, anti-free choice, and anti-individual human rights. You can not "give free stuff" to one person unless you first steal it from another, thereby effectively making the "other" a slave.
Biden's from Delaware, the credit and banking capital of the U.S. He's the one that sponsored, introduced, and rallied support for the "anti-bankruptcy" bill which caused many families to lose their homes over the last three years. Under the old bill, homes were protected; under the new bill they were not. Under the old bill people had a safety net to start-over with a clean slate; under the new bill they were screwed to the wall with 40-year-long repayment plans.
Some "man of the people" - he should more properly be called the "man of the credit corporation".
>>>engineers who would like to define a workable scheme for traffic management
(1) Do what they've been doing since the 80s and 90s: Install fatter or more lines to handle the increasing load. The internet is not like a road with finite space. It keeps growing wider-and-wider-and-wider as technology advances.
(2) Another effective means of managing traffic is by charging for it - use more, pay more. Use less, pay less. This method encourages users to conserve bandwidth via the feedback of reduced billing costs. It also provides extra funds to buy additional wires.
IMHO these issues are better handled, not by a president, but by Congress (also State Legislature). Locate the representatives that support your particular pro-neutrality view, and back them with your support. Contact your actual representatives and tell them you like "Representative Smith's" ideas and would appreciate them backing his ideas too, and if they do not, ask them to explain why they disagree.
You'll get more done that way than trying to talk to a president who never listens and probably has more important things on his plate (like whether to war against Russia or not).
I'm having a hard time visualizing someone more liberal than Obama (who supports an Uncle Sam Hospital monopoly), unless the guy's name was Lenin, Marx, or Engels.
In the end they'll BOTH control the internet, just in different fashions:
- McCain will want to block obscene pictures and movies, same as he does on cable or free television - Obama will allow those movies, but instead he'll setup a regulated Uncle Sam monopoly - thereby stifling freedom-of-choice.
I don't know where ye stand, but as for me, I don't like either candidate's dictatorial method of running private citizens' lives (I'm speaking in general, not just the internet). The only thing going for McCain is that he's less dictatorial than Obama, but they are both still too controlling for my taste.
Also it's ridiculous to think an infrared-colored mouse could cause interference. Being optical, there's no way it could penetrate and interfere with the wiring behind a WALL on an airplane. Light does not penetrate solid objects!
The folks at Airbus are just dodging blame like kid trying to pretend he didn't spill the milk. "The dog did it." "Um, er, the mouse did."
Okay yes people are having sex younger, but statistics show that childbirth ages are moving UP, not down. That's completely opposite of what this "biologist" is claiming.
Your story reminds me of the Laura Ingalls stories I read. She and her sisters had very few possessions - corn cob dolls mostly. At Christmas or birthdays they got pieces of candy, and they thought it was the best present ever.
You don't need to bribe your kids with expensive stuff. You just need to spend time with them. Buy less things; work fewer hours; spend more time at home. (IMHO)
Or ignorant. Having never used an Ipod, I'm not missing these supposed "features" you're talking about, because I have no knowledge of them. My Best Buy/Insignia player seems to work just fine for me. (And it was free.);-)
>>>of course why be logical when there is Apple hate.
Or Apple love. Many people are also blinded by love to the point of illogic. I used Macs from 1991-97 and they were fine machines, but I'm not going to just blindly buy apple products, when I can get Insignia or other MP3 players for less (or free).
There are two possible solutions: (1) "Okay honey, if you can save $100, then you can buy an Ipod with your OWN money." This is how my own parents dissuaded me from buying a lot of un-necessary stuff. Saving $100 is hard! (when you're nine). It also taught me the value of things.
(2) "May I see your music player?"
"Here daddy."
"I'm going to take a piece of tape and write Ipod on it..... There you go."
I don't really care what label you use: "conservative" or "liberal". What I care about is PRO-CHOICE positions, and the Democrats are slowly but surely eroding that freedom of choice. ----- If you want an education, you go to Uncle Sam High. If you want a home, you borrow from Uncle Sam Fannie Mae. If you need to retire, Uncle Sam Eldercare will send you SS checks each month. And if you want healthcare you will (soon) have to go to Uncle Sam General.
Where's the choice in that??? It's a monopoly, and you can not have true freedom in a monopoly.
I also object to the Democrats' love for raiding my neighbors' wallets, not for the benefit of all, but for a few. The obvious example is the Bail-Out which will collect ~$7000 from 110 million american households in order to give it to a few executives. I was happy when the Republicans rejected the bill the first time.
I'm tired of anti-freedom monopolies. I'm tired of watching politicians raiding wallet, not for everybody's benefit (GENERAL welfare), but to enrich somebody else (welfare for a select few). This is no longer the land of liberty.
Not that the Republicans are much better. They are merely the better option.
>>>anyone who cares for other people regardless of cost
I don't care how much you spend helping other people, so long as it is YOUR money you spend, and not through the process of raiding your neighbors' wallets. Helping others is moral; thieving is not.
Okay well, I got a FREE insignia player that holds 1 gigabyte... perfect for listening to an entire Teaching Company course. And it was free.
But these little anecdotes don't change the statistics - Ipod still dominates in sales. Many people say "Ipod" in the same way they say "Kleenex" or "Xeroxing" or "Hoovering". The brand name has become the thing itself. Ipod will be safe and profitable at least until 2015 (imho).
Nah. My Insignia MP3 player has a removable battery, and it does not make the device any larger or uglier than the non-removable Ipod.

Perhaps when human beings venture into space, such that they become isolated planets, then they will evolve independently.
We should revive Cro-Magnon man and give him another shot.
I think he was unfairly killed-off.
He'd probably adopt to modern stupidity quite well.
