    You dope. We ALL have toll roads. Every time you buy gas, you are charged the toll that funds road maintenance. You seem so intelligent; I can't believe you never realized that obvious fact (gas taxes==the road tolls).

    As for your comment "The further away you get from the people, the more fucked up things become"..... it's [retty much all levels that are flawed. After all, it was the dumbass LOCAL government that granted Comcast a monopoly in my city. Had they been smart, they'd have given us three or four companies to choose from.

    Not the same thing. There's not enough room to run a separate road for UPS, DHL, etc.

    But there IS enough room for Time-Warner, Cox, etc to run wiring parallel to Comcast's wires, and thereby give each home multiple choices. A solution that gives power to the People (voting with their dollars).

    The monopoly only exists because of government mandate to grant Comcast exclusivity.

    If government stepped out of the way, then other companies like cox or verizon or time-warner could offer their services to compete. (But govt won't allow that.)

    As the Libertarians like to say: "I'm pro-choice on everything" and therefore support having multiple companies (comcast, cox, tim3e-warner, verizon) available to every home. Give each home a choice.

    Easy??? I'd have to track all my Ebay sales across 50 states, and mail-in 50 separate tax returns to each one!!!! At current postage rates that's $22 down the drain, plus the time wasted, just because I sell a few unwanted DVDs out of my living room.

    I am a Pennsylvania citizen, and that's the only government whose jurisdiction should apply to me. New York and the other State Legislatures have no authority to rule over me, and they can go to hell.

    I'd gladly trade 512 megabytes of RAM for a larger 300 gig hard drive. Something that can actually hold seasons worth of TV shows (to watch while on the go).

    It makes no difference. Once you get a job, it's not as if you'll actually do any REAL work. It's mostly just revisions of past designs.

    So I vote for "liberal arts" where you can at least meet some cute girls (and probably your future wife).

    Yeah because local, state and/or national governments have done such a wonderful job with their ownership of the Retirement plan (SS almost bankrupt), the roads (rising tolls and decreasing maintenance), the right-of-ways for cable tv lines (bribes to politicians to gain permanent monoopoly), and the government-owned schools (duh; where's the U.S. located on a world map? Who knows? Certainly not a gov't graduation.).

    Pass.

    Anything the government touches is doomed to provide poor service and/or esclating prices. The best way to solve a problem is to keep government as far away as possible, and instead introduce competition between multiple companies (i.e. have Comcast, Time-Warner, and Cox all competing to supply television/internet to your home). A free market solution is preferable to a poorly-run, poorly-managed government monopoly.

    STRAWMAN ARGUMENT. Nobody said anything about living like Amish. (Poor debating tactic.)

    The point of my previous post was: If you use "open source" products, you can do whatever the hell you want and live free from corporate dictatorship. However if you use "copyrighted" or trademarked products, then you have to be complying with your chosen corporations' rules and restrictions. ----- It's a choice, and each has pros & cons. Welcome to the "real world".

    I was actually talking about junior high..... but, eh.... whatever. SOMEBODY should lay down a rule, whether it's elementary, high school, or college: Absolutely no encyclopedias as citations.

    The fact that they don't do this is the reason they get so many wikipedia-based research papers. And then they unfairly blame wiki, when the teachers/profs should be blaming their own lousy skills.

    There's a difference between a thin scratch that appears to have been "etched" on the glass..... and a giant abrasion (because my IT guy used his hand to clean the screen) and blocks 1/8th of my LCD screen's view.

    Plastic is just more prone to damage than glass.

    My work computer has a glossy screen. I have to put a "roof" on it to block the glare of the flourescent lighting. WORSE: The stupid glossy material was scratched by the company's IT guru, so now all I see is a giant smudge on the bottom 1/8th of the screen --- unusuable.

    I still prefer CRTs. They may be "old fashioned" but at least they were scratch-proof (real glass, not plastic), could be easily cleaned (windex), and made brighter pictures.

    I've never heard that term.

    Perhaps it's time for a new amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "The right of the people to be secure during travel, against any surveillance or tracking, shall not be violated. And no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the vehicle to be surveiled or tracked."

    They'll care when Virgin announces, "If you want faster than 50k access to Itunes.com or BBC.com, you need to cough up another $10 a month." Then they will sit-up and take notice. Net neutrality is not just a good idea; it's how you prevent corporate dictatorship and/or manipulation of the user-citizens.

    "Spying" on me while I'm at the computer is no different than when my boss "spies" on me while I'm working the lathe, or "spies" on me when I'm loading the goods into shipping boxes.

    I'm on HIS property using HIS equipment and taking HIS money. He can spy on me all he wants in that situation.

    No it isn't. It's the responsibility of the Claimant to back-up his claim with references/citations. (Example: A reporter on CNN should provide his sources.) Likewise any responsible reader or viewer has the right to say, "Show me your proof, else I will reject your statement."

    It's not lame.

    It's verifiability. And you had none. You had a claim, but no source in your original posting, and it's entirely reasonable to be suspicious of strangers making unbacked statements. (Perhaps if all people did that, they'd not be scammed by nigerians. Instead they'd demand proof & catch the scammer in the act.)
