My advice would be keep an eye out for _any_ changes, and if they aren't for the better, then ask why. If you don't get a straight answer, beware.
I especially liked your first point; oddly enough I find this is the most obvious sign, probably because it is the one least hidden. Always, when a company was about to downsize, all stationery was nailed down, once even the recycled paper jotters!
