they perceive the consumer market as being too fucking cheap (and possibly rightfully so)

Just look at the sales of the Wii for the answer, it is indeed like that.

As IT workers with good jobs we also forget that many people actually struggle to afford higher end consoles as it is. The parts of the population that have the time or inclination to play the most games tend to also the poorest.. kids/students, and unemployed (or just lazy) people!

I bought my TV for gaming and blu-rays etc. I have started using SD streaming from LoveFilm and it's not bad, and my subscription also lets me rent blu-rays and games. If I really like something and think I'll watch it regularly then I'll probably buy it on blu-ray though, since they don't have HD streaming yet.

Likewise I recently switched to a Spotify subscription rather than buying albums. I think (well, I hope) from this point onwards there will always be services for streaming movies and music at a decent quality and price. The bandwidth and quality will only continue to improve, barring a massive thermonuclear world war.. but in that case there are probably more important things to worry about than media streaming.

I did play a lot of poker :) Nice and relaxing. The sound effects in the game are excellent. I actually thought it was raining outside one time, then realised it was just the game (surround sound on a decent home cinema system).

My brother had the story finished in a week or so, I was pretty shocked. I rarely did the story missions, hadn't even unlocked the third part of the map yet. I enjoyed playing the mini games, hunting, looking for the lost treasures, finding good horses and so on.

Degrees have probably been around for longer than most imperial units. SI angles are measured in radians. If you'd prefer to work angles out from distance/height rather than an angle that's fine, get the architect to do that, I don't see why it's a problem specific to the metric system though.

I have Just Cause 2 as well, and it's fun as hell to just explore and drive/parasail around, though I find the combat quite repetitive. Likewise with Red Faction: Guerilla. They're both fun for a blast every now and then, but they don't have the same variety and atmosphere that makes me love Red Dead Redemption. Unfortunately I lost most of my save games when my last PS3 died, and I can't face starting many of them again yet.. I restarted Red Faction: Guerilla last week though, and it seems they've improved some stuff via patches, like the map screen doesn't take forever to open now..

I was playing Red Dead Redemption for a month or two and was still only about halfway through the story.. if you buy the right type of open world/sandbox style games you can get a lot of value out of them. Oblivion is another good example, and Skyrim will be out soon. I love the type of game where it's enjoyable to just explore the world rather than always pounding away at a linear plot.

Evolution's Exchange plugin used to work fine for a while last year, with the occasional random crash, but now it's become pretty irregular again (sometimes just stops updating, or freezes when checking for new mail/quitting). So I could either install an old version and do without patches, or wait until they fix it. Neither is a particularly appealing option, especially for work machines.

Exactly, "a God who refuses to be tested, and that same God created everything and is all-powerful", is based on wishful thinking. When this god also condemns billions to hell without having had a chance of even knowing about him, it seems to me that this god is very likely to be man-made, or just makes him not worth worshipping in the first place. Also if you believe in evolution, when do you start introducing souls into living beings? Is every single celled organism given its own place in heaven or hell? That kind of thing just makes me think that most - and maybe all - religion is bunk.

I think it's quite reasonable to say that a "traditional scientific" approach is to have a strong argument. A "religious approach" is to use wishful thinking and emotions. A lot of people take that approach even outside of religion, so I guess it should just be called the "human approach".

When you try to have any "reasoned debate" with anyone who isn't actually looking for a logical discussion and is just pushing an agenda that they want to be true.. well, there's just no point really. You might as well be talking to a wall.
