It was phones/computers, not just computers. Though I do at the moment turn off the cell part of my current phone overnight since it is particularly thirsty, but I don't turn off the entire device. The power cost of keeping it on standby must be tiny, and I often charge it at work anyway..

A job comes into it because if you have a job you won't really notice the cost of leaving your phone on all the time. Keeping your computer on all the time is pointless if you're not running a server, but keeping your phone on is potentially very useful, especially if you don't have a landline.

There are some gaps in console gaming's arsenal, but I'm happy to miss out on a few exclusives for the sake of being free of Windows :) I'd be happy just replaying Civ 1 sometime in the next few years, I haven't ever played any of the sequels - the last time I played it was on my Amiga!

I do Parkour with a few friends several times a week, and we even have our own messageboard where we chat, but Facebook is nicer for sharing stuff like the videos and photos we've taken during sessions, or cool videos we've found on YouTube. It definitely has a place even among people who are already friends. It's also a nice way to get to know new friends (and even their friends/family) better.

Watching The Social Network yesterday almost made me delete my Facebook account, but at the same time it made me realise just how brilliant and revolutionary Facebook was when it came out. I've never really thought of it as anything other than a different form of MySpace, but being able to control what info other groups of people can see on your page is an important concept.

I find telephone calls are anything but polite, they interrupt me when I'm trying to do other things. Facebook is like any other message board. You post when it's convenient for you, other people read when it's convenient for them, and more than two people can communicate simultaneously. Phone calls are a waste of time for Slim's example of organising a party.. if you have a convenient all in one message board/calendar facility like Facebook, that all your friends already use, it makes sense to use it.

Probably. I use Docky set to autohide, it would work fine with a touchscreen.

Speaking of the task bar, how is task switching accomplished on this thing? I may have missed it in the video. Is there a gesture that does the same thing as Alt-TAB?

If you can do the expose style view with multitouch, I don't see why you couldn't set the alt-tab style switch in compiz to use the same gesture.

My biggest concern, what happens when you want(yes, want) to use the terminal?

Same as when you want to type anything else in? Use the onscreen keyboard, or connect up an external one..

I'm thinking the work to update the actual mod should have been very trivial, though I admit I don't know what the differences were between those versions of the Source engine. I can't really imagine anything that would make it difficult. Any large changes to stuff like networking would be handled automatically by the game engine and have no relevance to mods. Silly little things like map format changes for HDR lighting wouldn't matter, they could just leave HDR disabled, and convert the rest of the map, etc. I was thinking more that MS just paid a lot of money to have CS as an exclusive. It's the sort of thing that would have made me get an XBox over a PS3, were it not a Microsoft Product..

The price of my PS3 2 years ago is probably a lot less than I would have spent on upgrades had I stuck with my PC gaming. And now that I can't fiddle around with the graphics settings in games, I have stopped over-analysing the graphics settings and and constantly tweaking as I always used to do. I now just get on and enjoy the game as it is :)

The thing about Firefox is that it complies with standards. If it runs on Firefox, chances are it runs on every browser.

Many industry specific apps also run on Linux, it's not a stretch to imagine more tech companies porting their apps to Linux at all.. MS is slowly losing grip on the computing world, and nothing of value will be lost.

High resolutions and sound quality are more important to me than 3D at the moment, especially as I'm unsure as to any long term effects of watching 3D movies using current tech - ie whether it could slightly affect the way you perceive depth in real life if you're watching/playing 3D content a lot.

How do you expect 3D to "improve the overall storytelling process"? Or even high quality video and sound for that matter? This isn't about the story, it's about immersion.

What do you mean you "lose interest"? Are you trying especially hard to notice the 3D effect? Since it's fixed position 3D it won't react to your vision like a normal real life scene, so I think trying to study it too hard might be what gives any headaches.. I wouldn't know as I've never had motion sickness or any other problems from playing games or watching movies.

Still haven't worked out the best tactic for watching 3D movies myself, such as should I try to refocus for objects in the background etc? But I think the best way is probably just relax and not think about it too much.

I certainly don't want them "improving the overall storytelling process" by pushing objects pointedly towards the camera every few scenes though.
