Bah I don't have space for that extra 64kbps! Okay, lies. That's pretty darned awesome news, I may in fact start buying some non CD albums from Amazon \o/
This is true though. Unless the MP3s are 192kbps as I rip all my CDs at, I'm going to keep buying CDs rather than just downloading. I also like to have CDs anyway to play in the car (maybe my next car will have an MP3 player, but I dont want to bother spending any money upgrading my current one, a 6 CD changer is enough for me right now..). Not everyone who doesn't choose to download this will be a pirate, but I am tempted to buy some albums just to show my support for the lack of DRM..
Shush Mr Firewire, you know fine that everyone wants USB these days! While your insight and better technical prowess is impressive, the free market has spoken. Farewell.
Big difference between microwaves (which presumably wouldn't even travel that far) and the effect of a magnetic field on the body. Do we even know if there are any negative effects from spending long amounts of time in an area with a strong magnetic field? If it was *really* high strength then it could pull out all the iron from our blood (a la Magneto in x-men) of course:P
Didn't say there were any drawbacks. I'm sure there are a few applications where a lack of wires would be very handy though. Having wireless networking on your laptop but having to recharge every 2 hours is kind of pointless
Getting a bit carried away, aren't you? I don't think you are the intended target market for this car. It would be fine for commuting - though personally I wouldn't enjoy driving a vehicle that has that low a power/weight ratio (though I can't find a source on the weight of the car after my very brief search), but that's just me, who thinks of a car as more than just something to get from A to B.
PS Having roads that go diagonally make the hill less steep to ascend (I'm guessing you already know that, but from what you said it makes it sound like you think they're more steep..).
I'm guessing that it's to make sure that he can carry around a fresh supply of air in the back of the truck - it's not quite the same as having the wind in your face on a bike, but it's the next best thing, damnit.
Just how many horses does it take to carry the average San Franciscan up a hill? Well, maybe it would take more than one when they have encased their body in 3500 lbs of metal..
Excerpt from the storyboard for Mission Impossible Four:
Ethan *thinks* he has copied all the super secret files from the standalone server placed under heavy guard, in a room ventilated with a handy man-sized ventilation shaft, but then after 3 hours of ctrl-clicks and drag and dropping, and yanking his USB drive out just before a guard appears, he gets this warning! *cue deadly ass-kicking scene of sysadmins in Tuxedos*
When you get into the realm of 'guessing' the intent of the user implicitly, things get hairy. I'm guessing that's a reference to the phrase "separating the men from the boys".
For the types of application this is meant for, I think the old option would be a power cable. Unless you want to run your TV and computers from a few truck sized batteries. Seriously, when they brought out laptops did you say "JUST USE A DESKTOP!"? When they invented the telephone would you have said "JUST GO FOR A VISIT!". When people are walking into hospital do you should "JUST DIE ALREADY!"?
Possible that he's a poser and just spent all his money on an iMac, and therefore can't afford a wireless router?;) Or he bought it cheap from another poser.. (I've always liked Apple, but if I'm gonna buy one these days it would be the 'pro' stuff rather than something with a crappy graphics card..)
Aye, I was born in 83, was using a Commodore 100 around 86-87, then around 91 we had a Mac Classic which I sometimes used for typing up schoolwork. I didn't even use the net until around 95!
This could be a silly question that doesn't take into account the economic viability of getting computer time or printing out documents back then, but why would you even need (or want) to use a typewriter if you had regular access to a computer?
If the passengers start killing each other in confusion, then the attack is a minor, and somewhat hilarious (I'm imagining it in a dark comedy style way, though in reality it would of course be tragic) victory.
How very cynical.. OLPC is a not-for-profit project afaik, and with the current political and financial climate in the 'target' countries, the last thing that they need is to get financially or politically raped by a capitalistic company.. I hope that these countries don't end up being primarily Windows using nations, but if they do, at least they should be able to do it at a decent cost, thanks to the 'market' that the OLPC is creating/'exploiting'.
Not really, they could have taken NA and put any letter in front of it. '[Letter] Not Acronymed' is an incredibly pathetic name for a product, at least WINE, LAME, GNU et al give moderate if humourous reference to what kind of topics they are related to. Pitiful attempt at being cool. Coming up with good recursive acronyms isn't that easy, sure, but if you can't do it well, don't just do it anyway.. eww. Ah, Microsoft bashing is like shooting fish in a barrel..:/
But who tests to make sure these tests are standards compliant?
>:O

Someone could just tell it it is data files, save some time. That's one smart program though.

Yeah yeah, I was in a hurry ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductive_charging , I have seen similar things on TV a few years ago. You have disappointed me.. I thought all /.ers with low uids were like technology gods :(

Did you even read the summary? :p

Wow, you can cycle on water these days? Man I love technology :)
Until he farted. Ahem.

Uh.. I meant Managing Director. Over here our general doctors are called GPs (General Practitioners), sorry for the confusion! :p
