I'd like to live in your world where $1,700,000,000 isn't a "reasonable amount of money"..

It may not be enough by itself, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered among other solutions. A paltry billion here and there - pretty soon you start to see savings!

Eliminating jobs would be a good thing by the sounds of it, unless you'd rather another "bailout" situation.

Here in the UK I don't think we even have Saturday delivery from the Royal Mail..

Well, people keep saying that Steam works fine under WINE, and has for a long time. I'd use it myself if I hadn't already switched to consoles for now because dual booting destroys my soul. I've still got the notion that I'll buy/build another gaming PC at some point, but there's been no real reason to so far. Maybe if Minecraft starts to look more interesting and polished.

I switched to Mint from Ubuntu - it's slightly nicer than Ubuntu was before Unity.

Just because someone has "experience", doesn't make them good. Especially if they're clearly and terrifyingly ignorant. Usually I don't give a fuck about politics, but if I were American, I would have voted for Obama. I would have voted for a mouldy lump of cheese over Palin. The only person I'd trust less than her is that beauty pageant woman talking about "the Iraq and such as like".

How is anyone who hasn't seen an iPad before to know how big the thing is? I had people asking me if my 5 inch Dell Streak and 7 inch Android 1.x devices were iPads..

You're right that the whole who-copied-who's design thing is stupid though. For one thing, Samsung has had digital photo-frames with the same gloss-flat-black-with-curved-corners design as an iPad long before the iPad was announced, and second.. how many fucking ways are there to make a "tablet" shape?

Whenever I've used iPhones and iPads, I've hated them simply for the lack of a "back" button, which is my most used button on Android, both in 2.x when it was an actual button, and 3.x where it's a soft-button in the corner.

. It has become so complex and relies on so many differing pieces that it is getting increasingly difficult to differentiate between products. That leaves functionality and design as a product differentiator.

That makes no sense. If things are complicated, it's easy to differentiate. It's because the design of a tablet is so simple that all tablets look the same (barring colours, and whether to round off certain edges or not).

Here's another choice Apple had: not suing other companies for using a shape that was around before the iPad..
