that would predate Vernor Vinge's Marooned in Real Time which has a space ship with the self reparing tech based on the same idea. i guess its always the really visonary Science Fiction writers that predict the really cool science and it apears to be the time when we see lots of those "predictions" coming true. its also amusing that Phillip K Dick wrote a short story where all those science fiction visionaries were considered precog's. and thanks dude i was looking for some more cool science fiction to read.
