  1. Flash drives to take a hit too... on Google Declares War on Microsoft · · Score: 2, Interesting

With an online spreadsheet and word processor, I won't have to jack around with my flash drive all the time between school, work and home. I can create a document online and save it there; forward it to whomever I need to; and access it whenever without the need for my flash drive intermediary. Big news for me and the other kajillion students out there. I used to shuttle stuff around via email and even a web site I had before. This eliminates machinations like that too.

Also, the city of Houston and state of Indiana both set up a similar system called SimDesk a few years ago.

No, Microsoft does not want to lose whatever amount of control they think they have due to owning the de facto document standard. If you think that Microsoft is concerned about being limited, well they should be able to sleep at night when they consider that the OpenDocument format hit version 1.0 in May. They don't version it for nothing. So, expect improvements to address all of Microsoft's concerns. It is going to make more and more things real standards. Open ones. You can already save sound and video in documents and silly stuff like that. Please don't think that only Microsoft can implement a concept like INK either. XAML may be fine, but it has one thing about it that Microsoft wasn't willing to give up and Massachusetts wasn't willing to accept-Microsoft's control of it. Microsoft and Massachusetts both know what they were at odds about and any other issue Microsoft seemed put out about was a red herring.

Well, if they had done this 10 years ago when they should have, it wouldn't be looked at in such a bad light. But to do it now, right after their row with Massachusetts and when they've been blowharding so much about Metro, what else do you expect? I bet Metro could pump out OpenDocument formatted files easily enough too. What benign motive do you think is preventing them from doing that?

Is not a compelling argument. Especially from a municipality. I doubt the state of California could squeeze any taxes out of Google/Nasa over this deal.

Everyone has always known Windows was a POS even though MS beat their collective chest over it. So, they were hiding the truth about it all along. I wonder if they will send a press release, "We LIED to you about the quality of Windows. We've now rewritten it from scratch. So, please forget all the bad stuff that we did in the past and dole out more of your sweet moolah for it like the idiots we know you are. My aren't we innovative!" I wonder if they are still going to include the profanity in it.

is that they lie. They lie right to your face. They lie when they know that you know they are lying. Alchin should be brought up on perjury charges for the line of BS he fed the DOJ-And we all knew that it was a lie. Cannot undo the browser from the OS-LIE. They mixed software not metal. It could be undone. This open document format thing with Massachusetts. MS could support it. They just want them to go on using MS software and assume that nothing else would work. Don't ask any questions, just keep paying. Total farce.

if I saw them say "richly innovative" in there that Blizzard had been bought by Microsoft! It's rare to see anyone other than MS who is able to say so little with so many words. This must've been penned by another one of those MS defectors.

I used a pre-1.0 version on Windows XP, and it was just as fast as Thunderbird. I guess if you were concerned about being able to use a perfectly consistent interface for your email across a variety of platforms, then Columba would be good.
