  1. Consumer feedback on Amazon Gets Patent on Consumer Reviews · · Score: 1, Insightful

Wow, no one has ever thought of gathering customer feedback before... Brilliant patent

  2. Nintendo is taking a great risk on Revolution Least Expensive Next-Gen Console · · Score: 1, Insightful

Nintendo is running in the ballpark of a 4-5 year console turnaround. The next console after Revolution won't hit the market until well after 2010.

By early '06 Dish Network and DirectTV will be offering over 100 HD channels. Digital cable companies will not be far behind due to the constant battle going on in that industry. HDTV's are dropping like rocks in price. These will be the standard within 2 years.

Nintendo could be a 'niche' console if they stray too far from Nintendo and Sony. Why? There are still a ton of games made for all 3 consoles and many of these companies may choose to stop supporting Nintendo. Making a game for the 360 and PS3 will be easy (support the same technoligies and relatively the same power), but Revolution will be drastically different and may not be worth the price.

  3. This does not work on Blizzard's Warden Thwarted by Sony's DRM Rootkit · · Score: 0

Sorry. This rootkit will hide the process from WoW, but the Warden will still be able to tell if a function is hooked within the code. Blizzard won't care what is hooking their code, even if they can't find the process, you will get banned anyway.

RTFA. Xbox won't be taking a 50% price reduction in a year. They are prediction the Xbox360 will be down to about 250 next holiday season (a 1/6th drop) and that PS3 would need to be released at 500+ for any shot of Sony making a dime.

  5. Patriot Act Myths on Democrats Defeat Online FOS Act · · Score: 0, Troll

The slight-left-of-Ted-Kennedy average Slashdotter will have you believe that the PATRIOT (capatilized due to its acronym nature) is a right-wing conspiracy choking our civil liberties.

Democrats shooting this down is worse than anything in the PATRIOT act. (who, by the way, Democrats helped create and voted for)

The act simply extends the CURRENT abilities of law enforcement towards drug dealers towards terrorists. You will not find a SINLE provision inside the act that can change the way you are treated as a citizen.

It simply allows our government to retrieve warrants based on suspicion of terrorism (which was possible before), administor roaming wiretaps based on suspicion of terrorism (which was possible before), and sieze library records under suspicion of terrorism.

Unfortunately since not RTFA is common around here, almost no one has read through the complete act to realize this... and our liberal media doesn't have the guts to tell you.

  6. XBOX 360 has a very strong release lineup on 360 Costs Half As Much As PS3 By 2006? · · Score: 2, Insightful

What is with all the replies about the lack of strength of the 360's lineup?

FPS - Perfect Dark Zero, Quake4, Call of Duty 2, Gears of War. There has never been a release with a better set of FPS games. PDZ will be fantastic, and anyone who has played COD2 in a Wal Mart has walked away beyond impressed.

Sports - Typical EA and ESPN lineup with nearly every sport being represented. NBA NFL Soccer CBB - only major gap is college football.

Big Sellers - Saints Row will be out in early '06. This is often called a GTA clone, but it will go above and beyond. Elder Scrolls 4 - Slightly delayed but will help with a 1Q push in '06 of 360 sales.

Lastly, in its own catagory, Splinter Cell 4. The next in the best series of games on Xbox and PS2. This will be out in early '06.

Microsoft is hitting hard with solid games up front and some major ones in early '06. Their market penetration will be considerable by Late '06. Sony is NOT happy right now.

  7. Democratic Myths on Democrats Defeat Online FOS Act · · Score: -1, Troll

Where did the Myths come from that Liberals were in support of protecting Bill of Rights freedoms?

Radical Liberals, those in control of the Democratic party (Ted, Howard Dean), believe in limiting nearly every aspect of our lives. Hillary Clinton trying to stop video game violence, liberal FCC leaders controlling our airwaves, hippies limiting where and when someone can smoke, etc.

It is unfortunate that with all the information made available by the Internet that political knowledge is actually decreasing in our country. The misconceptions for both political parties in this country is astounding.

Quick, name every game on PS2 or Xbox that isn't released on the other system.

I bet you didn't think of many. In this day in age nearly every game worth buying (save Nintendo) is released on every platform.

I went to gamerankings and found only 3 games in the top 30 released on only either PS2 or Xbox. Halo, Halo2, MGS 2.

The number of misconceptions of the PATRIOT act almost total the number of anti-Microsoft posts anymore. Let me clue you in. The PATRIOT act does not give the government one ability it did not have before, it simply expanded the definitions of these old laws to include terrorism. The government could look at your library history previously, and now they can if they can prove to a judge you are a terrorist. The government could wire tap your phone if you were a drug dealer, now they can if you are a terrorist. The only thing you could call new would be the 'roaving wiretaps'. Previously you could ditch a phone tap by simply buying a new pre-paid phone, requiring the government to present evidence in front of a judge again. Now the wiretap exists on any phone you purchase. Please, bash things all you want. Its fun to read, but at least do some research first.

.. They need to prove to large corporations that its worth switching. Right now nearly all major businesses do not even allow the installation of Firefox on systems they own. Why? Even if Firefox had fewer exploits, you are still introducing more security risks with IE+Firefox rather than just IE. Things like this will give the suits just enough evidence to stay with IE. If the average user has Windows/Office/IE at work, he/she will use it at home.
