    Debian is not that hard of an install. Frankly if you dont know how to partition a disk, and can't figure out the debian installer (2.2) then you will have lots of problem with linux. Maybe starting with mandrake would be a good idea. But try debian first.

    Slackware is too much for a real newbie, but while a little bit of a challenge to get up, it is NOT rocket science! The current system is not the challenge some like to claim it is. debian's packaging tools make getting applications up and running very easy. Doing cool shit is a major motovating factor, debian makes getting cool shit running easy.

    Install debian a few times, get things going nicely, try slackware a few times, then try that linux from scratch thing, I forget the URL....

    Yes and surprisingly the P4 1.7ghz also seems to benchmark surprisingly well compared to the VIA C3 733mhz processors.....

    Why they're centuries ahead of the powerful K6 233mhz.

    Hey lets do a dual cpu benchmark: Dual Athlons compared to Dual P4's, oops MP P4's dont exist, doh!

    pah-LEEZ, ip4 and ip6 can coexist on the same wire, with gateways, dual sites, 99% of the people using the internet would never even know there was a switch from ip4 to ip6.

    I sometimes buy linux stuff, stuffed penguins, stickers, CDs, etc just to show support for linux, but I download the distro (debian) I use from linuxiso.org. I usually burn the images onto those neat blank CDR's with the cool debian logo on them you can get from copyleft.net.

    I'm sure MSCE-types buy lots of dorky Microsoft(TM) junk (they're clearly gulible people anyway).

    Quite a number of people steal their windows, but it is Microsoft that defines sharing CD's as theft. Besides, if you run windows, sooner or later you pay the microsoft tax anyway.
