  1. Patent the patent process on How Will Electronic Patents Affect the USPTO? · · Score: 1

Getting a good relationship with a local company that you can benefit each other is very important, IMO.

Even if you don't like either the democrats or the republicans, there's still a choice. I'm not just talking about the Libertarian, although thats definately who I think should be elected.

What makes me so angry is when people express an interest in the Libertarian party's principals, stating "Yeah, I believe those things, this is what I want", then turn around and vote for Bush because they hate Gore, but think they are wasting their vote if they choose Libertarian. You are only wasting your vote if you don't vote for who you truly believe in, whoever that may be. Not voting at all is worse than voting for the lesser of two evils, because your are not only NOT counting your vote for the person who you want to represent you, but you are also giving the status quo ammunition. You have no right to complain if you didn't vote. Voting for someone who ends up losing is better than not voting at all, as long as you voted your heart.

No matter what the underlying REASON for IBM doing and offering these things, the end result may be the same, if the Linux community works it right.

If they can make a buck off of Linux by doing these things, who cares? If the mom and pop Linux consulting company can do it, IBM has just the same right. I know that not everybody is going to be happy with the underlying reasoning for their actions, but as long as it helps the community, I think people should stop bitching so much.

I am a Systems Programmer for a community college. My supervisor (the Lead Systems Programmer) just recently told me that an IBM systems engineer told him that a port of Linux for the 390 was in the works to be officially released the end of 2000. This would be a SUPPORTED product, apparently.

Things to remember about mainframes. There are a myriad of OS's that run on one box at a time. Big banks and big corporate outfits traditionally run
MVS, which is a beefier (more expensive) OS. Colleges (or other institutions that need mainframes but are a little short on cash) usually
run VM. There is a Unix OS available that goes along with MVS, but according to my boss, the Linux for 390 will be targeted more towards those running VM.

Needless to say, it was awesome to watch on our setup. About 6 people attended our "private showing", and only 2 of those people hadn't already seen it. And 2 of the people who had seen it, saw it more than 1 time. So, in reality, the theaters didn't lose any money. I don't feel bad about it being bootleg, because of that fact.
