Great book.
I am 47 and female and I have a degree in CS. When I was in school there were quite a few people in the computer science department that were female. I don't remember that any of the professors were female but it was a long time ago and I might have forgotten. I have been programming since I was 17 and I don't think of myself as "scary". "Normal" doesn't mean "attractive" for either men or women.
The solar-powered handbag is an interesting application of existing technology. It will be considered a "good" application if people buy it - that is, if the innovation doesn't drive the price up to where no extra value is perceived.
