  1. Re:Going too far? on GPL 3 May Require Websites to Relinquish Code · · Score: 1

I get the impression that a lot of people don't understand the current GPL license and if they produce OSS they just license it as GPL because everyone else does. I think GPL has a few too many grey areas and personally, I use the BSD license because it's very easy to understand and serves my purpose well. I also think that by adding specific cases into the new license (eg. web published software) it's going to make it more complicated, create more legal disputes and you might find people licensing a lot more using alternatives.

50W to run something that uses less than 10% of its theoretical capacity ... what a power hungry device! What are brain engineers doing these days? Obviously not their jobs. :P

This fan is off most of the time but when the insides heat up it will be turned on until the temperature is below the set limit. When running, the fan's speed will vary automatically based on how hot the PSU is, so even it is running it may barely be audible because the fan is spinning slowly.

So they have mostly eliminated the need for a fan by using some good heat dissipation methods. Though if you are running your PC for extended periods of time or your PC is tucked away under a desk somewhere where it doesn't get much air flow, I would expect the fan to be humming away as normal.

  4. Re:*nix incompetence on Unreliable Linux Dumped from Crest Electronics · · Score: 1

Not to mention he makes mention of meeting SAP's support requirements to be tedious. Honestly, looking at the actual requirements they don't look that hard to keep up to date with. A particular version of the kernel, married with a particular vendor release of linux running on some specific hardware. The article makes it sound like you need binutils from redhat 6.5 but then gcc from redhat 9 (this is only an exaggerated example).

  6. Design flaws? on The Tongue Twisting Tooth Microphone · · Score: 3, Interesting
I really wonder how effective this mic would be. How is it affected by food, saliva, smoke, water etc? If it's highly susceptible to damage from these substances then that would require you to continually be taking it in and out of your mouth. What a hassle and highly prone to getting lost. What about if you accidentally swallowed it? Is that dangerous? And can it damage your teeth if, for example, you bit down really hard?

None of these issues really get addressed in the article, not to mention the ease at switching it on and off. Those listening to the transmission could be deeply traumatised by what they hear :)

  7. VOIP Newbie on VoIP Going Wireless · · Score: 1
Being a bit of a newbie with this whole VOIP phenomenon, I have a couple of questions if someone cares to enlighten me...

    (a) How does it deal with being on the phone at the same time as downloading something or playing games (or something else that may be bandwidth intensive)?
    (b) Does it require me to have a computer and be using it to make a call or just have an internet connection? Working in the IT industry tends to encourage me steer clear of computers when at home so as to keep the balance.

  8. Dubbing can be strange on Central Park Media Lets Fans Cast "Outlanders" · · Score: 4, Insightful
I find it weird watching dubbed anime sometimes. There are times when the finished product is comical because...

    (a) the characters' mouths move beyond what has been said
    (b) the character is still speaking yet their mouth has stopped moving
    (c) the dubbed voice has been sped up or slowed down to match the mouth movements.

Why not just leave the animation in the native language and add subtitles?
