  1. Re:Old version = old news on Flaw Made Public In OpenSSH Encryption · · Score: 1

Just because a new version is out doesn't mean people are using it. People who rely on package maintainers or "the community" to help them out and keep things up to date could very well be let down. Moral of the story, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

Or use Gentoo, where you can tell portage to sync with the GIT/SVN/CVS server of packages instead of having to wait until updates have been added into the regular portage tree.

It might be risky to always run the latest versions of everything, but it sure feels nice when non-issues like this story shows up.

Something tells me that the Microsoft team are aware of this (at least some of them ought to be competent). However, I can think of two possible reasons for why they dont fix it:

    1. They are working together with hardware manufacturers, who gain more money if the software is slow.

    2. They are keeping that upgrade ready for some future version in case that version lacks enough features to be marketable itself. That way they can at least throw in "Longer HDD lifespan and 2 times faster software!!".

Enough physicists have said that even though a black hole might be created, it won't be a problem. They have studied it long enough for me to trust them without understanding how those things work.

They might be wrong, but so could other engineers who build bridges and airplanes, and that doesn't stop me from trusting that those things will work.

The awesome version would be to slowly reduce the % of users that can see his posts to 0 thereby making him think that no one likes him. Nothing more crushing to the troll than attention starvation.

This is not likely to work in the long run.

When some user who can see his posts reply to them, the users who cannot see them will start suspecting things. Soon your technique of silencing people will be widely known in that forum, and its effectiveness decrease.

One solution would be to do the same with all posts by the troll or about the troll, but this would probably be noticed even faster.

I agree with G3ckoG33k. This is very old news.

I've had 10/10 Mbit _fiber_ for more years than I can remember, and I have lots of friends with both 24/1 and 100/100 Mbit.
Right now I pay 30 per month for 10Mbit, I think the price for 100Mbit is 60 per month.

The cool thing about my connection is that the fiber goes all the way to your basement, then TP cables from there up to your switch, then to your computer. The only network knowledge you need to have is how to use DHCP since you get 5 dynamic public IP addresses.

I really hate when a site such as /. comes up with news that is this old. Sure there are lots of people who had no idea of this, but I think that the people who post the news should be more up-to-date.
